urgent help on 1st build!

this is an interesting turn of events lol, the speaker just arrived! looks exactly like the picture you guys gave me earlier, so all we need now is the new motherboard.

The RAM comment wasnt for you ;-).

And I don't see what GPU has to do with the lead/psu being faulty, does your old GPU not require external power lead?

you said it might be a faulty PCI-E cable, and my old GPU needs one, unlike the 285 which needs 2.

quite odd...the RAM has arrived, and according to my account page, it's been refunded. The wierd thing is the motherboard still says We are waiting to recieve this item. I sent them both at the same time, so shouldn't they both arrive together?

p.s: phoenix, it's a 9600gt mate, but thanks =)

got an automated email saying testing can take up to 7 days...bummer =(

On the plus side, I might go buy a PS3 game to keep the time ticking

Wow, just read the whole thread and it was like reading a good novel!
This seems like a wonderful community. Any room for an old git? (Is 'git' a rude word?) :)
Minato, you have a great outlook and attitude. I'm sure I would not have had your patience when I was your age. Blimey, I do sound like an old fart!
Anyway, good luck with the build and lets hope it doesn't take too long. I'm sure OCUK will sort it quickly. I've been a customer for a few years, due mainly to the excellent customer care.
I'm twittering again, better slope off...

Lol, thanks paul! maybe you're on to a good idea there, we should compose "OcUK: The Forum Chronicles"

*Everything explodes awesomely*

LOL!! oh man we need to email that to steven spielberg, we'll all be millionares, and then we can build super special awesome pc's!

hmm, the Motherboard hasn't arrived yet according to the RMA page =(

since they are closed tomorrow, they'll get it on Monday, and if testing is done fast, earliest we'll get to see it back is around Wednesday.

I got Sims 3 though, so i'll get to play that for the next few days to pass time lol.

Sorry to say but I saw on another thread that the RMA department was 17 days behind schedule, i hope its not the case for you. Good luck.

thanks for the information mate. I hope it's not the case, since when they got my RAM, as soon as it arrived it got refunded.

If it is a long wait then it's not the end of the world, just an inconvenience.

just got an email from OcUK saying they are returning the motherboard back to me, because there are bent pins. I'm really gutted about this since I couldn't see any bent pins, and now i've got a motherboard that doesn't work.

for once...I can't seem to see the bright side lol.

any ideas?

when I sent the board off I couldn't see anything out of place, or when I removed the heatsink. Perhaps I don't know what to look for! When I get it back (in a few days time probably); I'll take a picture of the socket and upload it here. I must say, i'm having trouble believing this is just bent pins...but then it explains it perfectly:

Since:
Everything powers up, then shutsdown.
When the CPU has no power, it can't even start up, so it doesn't trigger the shutdown error.
I Don't get anything on the screen because the CPU isn't doing what it should be doing.

OK, looks like it's (Finally!!!) boiled down to 2 options =)

1) I can (with your help ofc) unbend the pins and everything handy dandy works fine.

2) I can't unbend the pins, or the pins are possibly fine, OcUK made a mistake and there is something dodgy about the motherboard. In this case, i'll have to fork out another £130 odd, to get a new motherboard.

I would normally write here: "one step closer to get this over with lads"

Instead I think i'll say: "please let me end this nightmarish problem!"

hope you're all having a troublesome free evening lol =)

yeah, hopefully (wohoo the brightside is back lol) the pins aren't at 90 degrees. If they were I think I would have spotted it =)

it has been confirmed at the "hub" according to the DPD site. Whether that is their hub or mine, I have no idea, but the motherboard will be back with me tomorrow =).

That gives me all of tomorrow morning/afternoon to read up on fixing bent pins lol.

I'm a bit confused as well myself lol, I made sure to be dead careful when putting the cpu in both times, and the only other exposure I had to it was when I was putting the socket cover back on.

ok, the Motherboard is here, and I think I can see what they mean by bent pins, I'll upload a pic now.

the only problem is it looks really hard to fix.

while i'm waiting for the camera to charge, my concern is that there are 2 bent pins.

one looks slightly mis-aligned, so hopefully I can fix that. The other however, looks completely destroyed...

there are little metal spheres on all the pins, but on this pin I can't see one, all it is, is a thin wirey piece of metal =(

can't take pics, whenever i go close it just becomes a big blur, even with 8MP =(

I hope I can pull it up enough, i'm pretty sure I can rotate the other pin slightly.

will have a go now...with a pair of tweezers lol.

Tried my hardest but still no luck.

the out of position pin using a needle I managed to get it back into place, it looks 99.9% like the other pins in the row and coloumn. It's just the pin to the left of that that is I know bad. It has a bluish colour, which is unique, it is about 1/2 - 3/4 of the size of the other pins, and it doesn't have the small metal piece raised above. It could possibly be a piece of the pin has snapped off...
