US election 2012

I am surprise Obama or the media hasn't picked up more on this point.

Editorial in Hong Kong's South China Morning Post

Obama has at least understood that Asia is where his nation needs to be focused. Romney has made contradictory statements... Most worrying is his vow to declare China a currency manipulator on his first day in office, a sure-fire way to start a trade war with a country that the US needs above all others. Extremism has no place in politics.

With China's economy growing 10% every year for the past 30 years straight, the above stance is utterly suicidical.

At the risk of creating a partisan flame war, I don't believe anything that the NYT says, and it's well known that Princeton is a liberal hot-bed.

I do agree that Obama is the favourite, and I do think he'll win. Stranger things have happened - ask Thomas Dewey about the 1944 election...

You could well be right about those leanings - it does come across slightly in the reports. However the models are mathematical models with no leanings.

In fact the 538 blog one is designed to account for bias in the polls, which is why they give Romney a 9% chance of winning - because there is a chance that the polls may be systematically biased towards Obama.

Along with 99.99% of the population ...... I DON'T CARE

GTFO the thread then. The presidential election of the superpower of the world matters to more than 700,000 people

It's not about partisan bias one way or the other - it's a matter of cold hard statistics based on polling data.

Besides, if it really was a case of liberal bias, the thing to do would be to talk up Romney's chances and scare democrats into getting out to vote.

As for Thomas Dewey in 1944... he didn't have the massive volume of statewide polls that we have now. Just look at how many hundreds of polls have been conducted in Ohio and Florida alone!

48-46 in polls is within the margin of error. So technically yeah, it is pretty even. If Ohio is declared Obama the rest of the night is all but certain.

It is all about Gary Johnson anyway:

For all supports of Obama and Romney this is an enlightening read. http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/09/why-i-refuse-to-vote-for-barack-obama/262861/

Good post that, read a few other things that TheAtlantic guy wrote. Some good points, very well made. However, suggesting that Obama is anything but perfect to a large swathe of his supporters opens you up for all sorts of horrible comments.

For once though, Romney is right.

The Chinese have long been known to be manipulating their exchange rates. So much so the US have threatened trade sanctions before.

Don't forget that whilst it sounds suicidal, it won't actually ever hit trade sanctions. From either perspective. The US relies far too much on Chinese imports, and China relies heavily on exporting to the US.

The reason this hasn't been so headline, is because the abortion/Iran approach is much more controversial.

It doesn't mean the policy is right, because its not very good from a foreign relation perspective. Their right in saying Obama is much more canny in his approach, but he himself has had issues in China during his term.

I am not saying he isn't wrong, but his stance doesn't help trade relations.

Donald J. Trump ?@realDonaldTrump

More reports of voting machines switching Romney votes to Obama. Pay close attention to the machines, don't let your vote be stolen

lol... it seems this has actually been happening!

Why are the news reporting this as neck and neck?

Every poll I see has Obama miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiles out in front

Worrying, but that looks like the reverse of what trump was yapping about, guy hits obama and romney gets highlighted.
Guess it may make a difference in swing states, afterall jeb won his brother an election based on such gubbins, and other associated corruption.

And you clearly seem to think bookmakers are morons, the minute they suspect large bets are being placed on "inside information" they close the book.

I was referring to the money matched on exchanges - not bookmakers. For somebody who wants to start a debate on bookmakers, you are very clueless.

Obama has done AMAZING things for the USA. Romney would deprive these people of Obama phones!

The time will come when there will be a revolution in America when people get sick of these rats.
