At the risk of creating a partisan flame war, I don't believe anything that the NYT says, and it's well known that Princeton is a liberal hot-bed.
You need to drop your irrational prejudices and take a dose of reality.
Nate Silver (the guy who runs fivethirtyeight.com) is one of the most talented statisticians on the planet.
His predictions about the 2008 election were more accurate than anyone else's: he predicted the popular vote within 1%, he successfully predicted the results of 49 states, and he successfully predicted every resolved Senate race.
Frankly, fivethirtyeight.com is where the smart people go to follow this election.
Obama has done AMAZING things for the USA. Romney would deprive these people of Obama phones!
The so-called 'Obama phones' were actually introduced under George Bush.
Since 2009, there has been an urban myth that Obama created a program to provide free phones to low-income Americans at taxpayer expense. There is, in fact, a government program that will provide low-income people with a free or low cost cell phone. It was started in 2008 under George W. Bush.
The idea of providing low-income individuals with subsidized phone service was originated in the Reagan administration following the break-up of AT&T in 1984. (It was expanded and formalized by the Telecommunications Act of 1996.) The program is paid for by telecommunications companies through an independent non-profit, not through tax revenue.

The video was originally featured on DrudgeReport.com, a right leaning publication. Naturally republicans nationwide jumped at the chance to use this video as evidence against President Obama's policies in an attempt to discredit him. It might have worked, except the "Obama phone" does not exist.
This matter is resurfacing now, but it was originally debunked back in 2009 by Factcheck.org. Presently thinkprogress.org has taken the lead charge in debunking this myth.
As it happens the "Obama phone" actually was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2008. The program is called "SafeLink Wireless." An article from August 2008 confirms this.

Why are libertarians always so incredibly ignorant?
The time will come when there will be a revolution in America when people get sick of these rats.
Dream on.
