US election 2012

It would probably shock a lot of people to know that the Republicans consider Romney a moderate candidate :p

Haha, I found this in Texas. People were telling me 'Yeah... he's no libertarian. He's not even a proper conservative.'

I listened politely, but inside I was shrieking with laughter. :p

By Republican standards, he most certainly is - do doubt about it. As was John McCain in 2008.

We could have seen Rick Santorum as a candidate. Now that really would have been scary...

I liked McCain. Couldn't agree with all of his policies, but he was the best Republican candidate for decades. He was more of a gentleman than Romney will ever be.

Don't even go there, girlfriend!

Agreed. The most moderate and reasonable Republican candidate to emerge for a long time.

If only he'd beaten Bush to the Republican nomination in 2000...

I believe Obama will take the electoral college vote easily, but it'll be impressive if he wins the popular vote as well. I think that's where the real uncertainty lies.
I would say that it's going to be a lot closer than the college, but I still think that Obama is going to carry the popular vote, as well. The RCP average suggests that he will, and Nate Silver is predicting 50.3 per cent for Obama, and 48.3 per cent for Willard.

However, one could only support him for the same reason anyone could dream of supporting Mitt Romney. You would vote in the hope that he didn't actually mean anything that he said during the campaign. That, along with his completely ridiculous choice of running mate make me happy that he lost. I completely agree that he would have been a far better nominee than Bush in 2000, and would probably have ran a campaign akin to how he had believed as a politician prior. But my god I'm glad that his ticket got obliterated in 2008.

He couldn't have done it. Bush won because he had the support of the Christian Right, whereas McCain didn't like them and didn't' care who knew.

Even when he came up against Obama it took a lot to persuade him that the CR vote was essential to victory (particularly with Palin as his running mate). By the time he'd agreed to bury the hatchet and negotiate with James Dobson, it was far too late.

McCain never received the unqualified endorsement he so desperately needed.

What a choice, a raging imbecile or someone who's main priority is to cosy up with celebs and be "cool".

I dont envy our American cousins at the moment really.

I weep for humanity if Romney wins.

The irony of course being, that American's don't want to vote Obama in for another term.

They just don't want to vote for Romney.

For reference, it's not his business capabilities that concern me. In fact I'm sure he'd be fine at that. That said, Obama has hardly done a poor job giving circumstances. My true concerns are Romney's views on abortion, general rights, and foreign relations.

Watched that episode on TV last night, genius!

Never got the over the top patriotism these things seem to bring out in Americans but I do find myself far more interested in American election night than I do ours.

What do you expect from a nation whose political elections are like a series of X Factor and the idiots in the crowd lap it up like they're at the WWF.
