US kills Iran's General Soleimani

The plane was only 3 ½ years old out of the Boeing Factory:

The aircraft was a Boeing 737-800 and was 3.6 years old at the time of the crash. The aircraft was delivered to the airline in mid-July 2016.

It just doesn't seem very likely that a newish plane with a decent track record (737-800) just happens to crash in a a country that let off a barrage of missiles against American targets a few hours earlier.

WHAT!

The Boeing 737 MAX has been grounded and that's about the same age....

There's a video on Twitter of the plane coming down as a fireball, it's a good bit in the distance though also you can track the transponder online and it goes dead at around 8km altitude.

If it's not a shoot down then it's very strange.

I'm guessing accidentally shoot down by Iranians.

I'm not sure if this will anger the Iranians more or just sap their will to fight.

Ironically, the US killed one of Irans top generals and a few other key people in a precision strike. Iran has had 50+ people die from a stampede and now 170+ from likely accidental fire on that airliner.

GG Iran....

They’ll cover it up and will Blake the US.

Overall a really successful retaliation for Iran.

Yup! I read a report from someone in Iraq, and while probably untrue, it made me laugh when they said that the missile landed and just lay there, nothing happened.

They should box it up and send it back :D

If it’s left to Iran to determine what happened it will go down as a crash, although I’d imagine Boeing will need to make their own report on what happened to their aircraft?

I’d take anything touted in the first 48 hours with a grain of salt, and add some considering the circumstances in the country.

Those on board Iran - 82; Canada - 63; Ukraine - 2 + 9 (crew); Sweden - 10; Afghanistan - 4; Germany - 3; United Kingdom - 3.

Ukraine are fairly neutral in all this. If Iran let Ukraines NBAAI in to do the investigation, then we might get something impartial.

And playing with fire.

I do hope for their sake that their people didn't shoot the plane down thinking "oh american plane, might have Americans on it".

It had Brits, Canadians and other western people on it so good enough for them.

I suppose this is the benefit of propaganda and Iranian state TV, Iran can just say they've killed 80, 40, 10 troops, whatever number..and it doesn't matter, the population will never know..

Well they would, its not like Saddams Iraq, despite the regimes best efforts they all have satalite dishes and mobile phones/internet.

You do realise that the CANDU reactor is about the best design there is for a civilian reactor that could be used for a clandestine bomb program!

Go Canada!

 :D

Just remind me how Iran shot down a plane at 8,000 feet using missiles that can't reach higher than 1,200.
