A headline on TV?

I'm literally watching BBC news as I type this and the report is on. They said he had the gun and dropped it.
Jesus wept, yes they have headlines on tv to, in the actual report they mention the gun but only after playing clips of "13 yr old unarmed boy shot dead by police" has flashed up multiple times.

I wasn't aware that there were reports of him firing randomly at cars.

It's the only reason he was being chased, it's integral to the whole story.
How did you not know?

Video from Farragut Career Academy High School showed Roman and Adam walking together, while a vehicle was seen heading down the street away from where they were. The video appears to show Ruben walk up to the corner and take a shooting stance, while Adam first starts to move back in the direction from which they came and then moves back toward Roman as Roman fires shots, prosecutors said.

Adam was next to Roman for a portion of time that Roman was firing shots, after which point Roman ran back the way they came – followed close behind by Adam, prosecutors said. A ShotSpotter alert recorded eight shots being fired, and a total of seven shell casings were found at the scene where Roman was shooting, prosecutors said.

ShotSpotter is a system which gets put around an area to listen for and triangulate shots being fired. The police arrived at the location less than a minute later.

But that was Roman on video firing those shots that triggered the system.

Prosecutors said while defendant Ruben Roman was the one to fire the gun, Adam was holding it when he was shot and killed by police at a point when Roman was already being detained.

So while Roman set off the ShotSpotter by firing at a car which got the police attention, Adam was the one the police shot.

Never heard of that system before...very clever.

Did the officer know though?

The officers wouldn't have known anything except to investigate shots at X location. They wouldn't have seen the video from the school camera.

With an amazingly fast response time they turned up, found Adam and Roman in about the right spot and chased them.

This is the cause of most of the drama surrounding these shootings - I absolutely agree that US police have behaved appallingly in some incidents, the focus though of outrage and rioting tends to be when the suspect is black (or sometimes when brown).... so much so that one media outlet even put an explanation up re: why the'yve mentioned race when a shooting involved a white person:

I'm absolutely not there lmao

Anyone who isn't wholly obedient to the ideology of authoritarianism and irrational prejudices that is called "progressive" by its supporters is "far right" nowadays. Authoritarian ideologies usually have a hyperbolic label they can use to demonise anyone who isn't wholly obedient. Heretic. Enemy of the people. Bourgeous. Aristocrat. Communist. Counter-revolutionary. Far right. Alt right. Etc. Many ways of saying the same thing - that anyone who is not wholly obedient to the ideology is evil. Changing your mind makes you a traitor, too.

These are not nice people.

Can't speak for omnomnom but when I first saw the story it was presented as an unarmed 13 year old kid who got shot. No mention of what lead up to the event or that they tossed a gun. It very much seemed like the story was being set up as the police planted the gun after the fact.

Based on that alone I took a similar stance at first but now I'd say it's just an unfortunate event.

You mean this news coverage?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/search?q=adam+toledo

Looks very lacking in outrage inducing headlines to me.

It's all "Police officer shoots boy", "graphic footage of police officer fatally shooting 13 year old" and the picture used is carefully selected from the fraction of a second in which his hands are visible and the gun he was using to shoot at people isn't visible. And, of course, there's no mention of that last bit.

Too bad the alternative is also authoritarian and irrationally prejudiced, in which you get called unpatriotic for even the slightest criticism of clearly broken systems.

Exhibit A would be Trump's campaign emails and Exhibit B would be consistently chasing the end of personal privacy.

It'd be nice if they'd both politely left the political stage, but that's never happening.

The two variations of the same ideology fight each other and everyone suffers. But one will win and then we'll all suffer more. My money's on the "progressives" as they have far more skill and far more power and far more money and they control almost all of the media and most of the payment processing systems. They've learned from Animal Farm and 1984 and real world authoritarian regimes and are implementing those lessons with skill and dedication.

There are other alternatives, but they stand little or no hope against the devout. Maybe equality, diveristy, tolerance and liberalism will be able to be reclaimed and make a comeback in another hundred years. Maybe the "progressives" have succeeded in corrupting and destroying those ideas forever. I'll be long dead before that question is answered. I just hope things don't get too bad before I die.

Pretty sure they may have learned far more from Gramshi and the contradictions (failure) of the early Soviet project.

Yup, its been shown that people only skim the headlines and the images these days which is why you see places like the DM headline their articles as they are even when you actually read the whole article it can sometimes bear little resemblance to the content.

The headline image on the BBC article is the first thing you see and process. In the case of this incident its incredibly prejudicial and sets a narrative for the majority that don't actually read the whole thing. You really do have to make a point of reading the whole article from top to bottom, sometimes going further by looking and the right and left opioning and the original source material.

Would you like to know why there's no accusation that Adam shot at people.

But hey, here you are, lying about the circumstances while at the same time accusing the BBC of being misleading.

Someone like @b0rn2sk8 goes past he takes your word for it because it sounds right in his mind.
