VAC banned again for no reason, COD Advanced Warfare.

No it's seperate to that. Iirc it works the same way as punkbuster looking for any modified files/known hack programs loaded into ram and checks the DNS cache to see if any hack DRM servers have been contacted.

You might find a server ban or a report player might trigger vac into delving a bit deeper but obviously we'll never know exactly how it works or it would be useless.

Yeah I had another account, and got banned for COD Ghosts, the only think I could think of at the time was a FOV changer. To be clear I never cheated on that account either.
!

so you were using something that can be used as a cheat, that interfered with the game, VACdid its job and picked it up.

With this account I've not used any third party stuff i.e afterburner etc while Steam is running, just in case it triggers a ban. This came out of nowhere lol.

That was why you were banned in Ghosts.

Did you use something similar on AW?

Also, If you have used any tool to increase your fps on a COD game, then it is considered a cheat as it gives you an advantage, you do realise this right? It is related to how the engine works...

They ban for FOV changers & or mods like Flawless Widescreen which fixes 21:9 to display properly but its considered a cheat to have the proper screen FOV acording to Activision  its totally ridiculous you have to play offline only if you use FOV mods.

I dunno. It's quite obviously an advantage to have a wider fov, including a wider display res. I don't see how it's unreasonable to have rules designed to maintain a level playing field in that regard.

There's a slight chance it's a false positive although looking at this thread there's a good chance it's the ops fault as he runs mods which gives an advantage over others.

Which is cheating.

Seems pretty normal. Guy cheating is caught cheating amd gets banned.

I've played a lot of games online and never been bamned for cheating, know why? Because I've never cheated...

Not really why should you have a FOV advantage over everyone else?

How can it be an advantage when it takes way more GPU + CPU power (about 4-8 times as much @ 4K) to drive the FPS introducing more lag & the FOV is just different its not really an advantage at all vs 16:9 or 16:10 in COD.

You could argue any resolution above 1280x720 is also an advantage as it allows more pixels of the image to be seen even if its the same FOV giving a slight headsup to those with 4K displays as the image is sharper so you can see other players/weapons slightly easier!

The only way its fair for all is to insist on the exact same resolution/FOV/FPS/Gfx settings for everyone!

That's a bit of a silly argument really. It's also an advantage to have a 1920x1080 display vs someone with 1280x720, it's an advantage to have a decent gaming mouse vs a ball mouse, to have a decent mechanical keyboard vs a laptop keyboard, a GTX980 vs an intel integrated HD9000... etc...

That's very weird because having never cheated I've also never been banned. Is there some kind of pattern immerging here?

Sorry, once a cheater always a cheater. Glad VAC seems to do something. Dont really play online pc shooters anymore because most of them are inundated with them. Have a quick look at the number of subscribers to your average cheat forum.....over 1 million....

Those are all things that the devs don't have any control over. Whereas locking the FOV IS something they can control. If you circumvent it you're breaking their rules. Whether you believe them to be right or not if they have rules in place and you break them you can't really complain when you get a ban.

This. Whether you think they are right or not is irrelevant. You agree to the EULA to use the game.

I hear a lot of stories of people being 'randomly' banned for cheating. In nearly 25yrs of PC gaming In have never been 'randomly' banned or kicked for cheating. Ever.

Did I get lucky or are people like the OP just butt hurt because they tried to exploit and got caught out? Seems to me these people always have some kind of excuse and protest their innocence......Always. Without fail.

Pro tip - leave the game alone and play it using simply the in game settings and you won't get banned! Simples! :D

PS - Why is it a new Steam account anyway? I still have my original from 2004. Opening new accounts is typical behaviour of those who want to hack/exploit. Let me guess, the only game you have on that account is AW right? lol ;)

Why don't the VAC players just be allowed to play with each other? They can cheat on each other's arses all day long then. :D

I believe that is how the anti-cheat worked in Titanfall.

Allegedly it didn't even tell players they were banned but it would only put them in lobbies with other cheaters. :D So much rage in 1 lobby!! lol.
