Vanced discontinued

Love being able to play with the screen locked. I clearly hadn't updated my version of Vanced, whatever version I have now skips baked in intros and sponsors :D!!!

Got a new phone.. if I copy over the Vanced apk from my old phone, will I still be able to download the rest of the plugins for it to work?

If I'm settled down enough to watch a video, my screen won't lock and I don't need it to, either.

What else?

I think you misunderstood? Some people want to allow youtube videos to play in the background with the phone screen completely turned off (and locked) so they can listen to videos like an audio book, long music mix, tedtalk, ASMR videos to fall asleep to where only audio is required, listening to something whilst running or on a commute... that kind of thing. It's a feature I and many people use all the time. I was not aware of any other way of doing this on a mobile phone using youtube. When you turn the phone screen off, youtube stops in all other apps/browsers I ever tried. Vance does it perfectly and reliably.

The sponsor block feature is very clever and works very well in addition to always blocking ads obviously.

The app is very customizable in terms of behaviour and layout/functions. One of the main features I like is being able to swipe up and down on the left/right sides of the video to increase/decrease brightness and volume on the fly. Double tap to shuffle is customizable as well. The seek bar has extra features and is customizable for some things as well.

And one thing I never understood why Google killed it off, tap to seek.

But yes, it's little extra features that makes the app more comfortable to use. I don't mind paying for premium but the direction the app has been going isn't always helpful and can sometimes makes it feel more cumbersome to use.

I can't believe that soon I'll be forced to use a poor experience version of YouTube and have to pay £12 a month for the privilege...which is crazy expensive. All I want is background and PIP function.

Can't even get rid of the stupid create button.

Find a VPN, pay approx. £1 a month.

There are a few projects in development.
Revanced looks promising as it will be a patcher for the youtube app

My S22 Ultra does it...

I just close the screen and youtube keeps playing... ???

VPN. sign up in Argentina. £1.23/month.

I've been paying for Premium for a couple of years now (via the India trick) but was still using Vanced as its a better experience than the stock app.
I've moved across to iPad now for most of it and sideloaded the sort of "Vanced" equivalent but I think I can get PiP and Background with Premium in the stock app too.

Its a loss though - always been a really good app and was always the first thing I installed on any Android device.

I can't recall where/how, but I'm pretty sure my S21 has something in the settings that lets you continue playback with the screen off, for this very reason.

Sponsor block I can understand, although I'm neither so impatient that I can't spare the 10 seconds, nor am I subbed to channels that have massive sponsor segments and bad segways to them...

And one thing I never understood why Google killed it off, tap to seek.
My app has double-tap to seek. Seems to work the same...?

The double tap you're speaking of is where you double tap on the side of the video to either quickly go forward or backwards a few seconds.

The one I'm referring to is tapping on the seek bar itself to skip to another point in the video. This is handy if you want to go to a certain point of the video instead of tapping multiple times on the side. You now have to drag the seek bar to do the same thing.

Fair enough...
But unless you know exactly where on this bar the 41:28 marker is, and can tap that precision-point on a tiny phone screen with your large manly fingers, would you not need to drag the slider until it reaches the point you want anyway?

I just did a rough estimate tap, then switched back to the double tapping to get to the precise time I want. I always accidentally drag a little extra when lifting up after sliding hence why I prefer only tapping.

Firefox continues in the background, as does chrome I think?

It's all really a non issue while you can use a VPN for £1 a month and have it on the TV too. I cancelled my spotify too, so I actually save money.
