I'm listening.....The app has many benefits over just a browser with adblock.

You can play YouTube videos with your screen lockedI'm listening.....
If I'm settled down enough to watch a video, my screen won't lock and I don't need it to, either. You can play YouTube videos with your screen locked

What else?
The seek bar has extra features and is customizable for some things as well.
Find a VPN, pay approx. £1 a month.I can't believe that soon I'll be forced to use a poor experience version of YouTube and have to pay £12 a month for the privilege...which is crazy expensive. All I want is background and PIP function.
Can't even get rid of the stupid create button.

I think you misunderstood? Some people want to allow youtube videos to play in the background with the phone screen completely turned off (and locked) so they can listen to videos like an audio book, long music mix, tedtalk, ASMR videos to fall asleep to where only audio is required, listening to something whilst running or on a commute... that kind of thing. It's a feature I and many people use all the time. I was not aware of any other way of doing this on a mobile phone using youtube. When you turn the phone screen off, youtube stops in all other apps/browsers I ever tried. Vance does it perfectly and reliably.
The sponsor block feature is very clever and works very well in addition to always blocking ads obviously.
The app is very customizable in terms of behaviour and layout/functions. One of the main features I like is being able to swipe up and down on the left/right sides of the video to increase/decrease brightness and volume on the fly. Double tap to shuffle is customizable as well. The seek bar has extra features and is customizable for some things as well.

I can't recall where/how, but I'm pretty sure my S21 has something in the settings that lets you continue playback with the screen off, for this very reason.where only audio is required, listening to something whilst running or on a commute... that kind of thing. My app has double-tap to seek. Seems to work the same...?And one thing I never understood why Google killed it off, tap to seek.

Fair enough...The one I'm referring to is tapping on the seek bar itself to skip to another point in the video. This is handy if you want to go to a certain point of the video instead of tapping multiple times on the side. You now have to drag the seek bar to do the same thing.
Fair enough...
But unless you know exactly where on this bar the 41:28 marker is, and can tap that precision-point on a tiny phone screen with your large manly fingers, would you not need to drag the slider until it reaches the point you want anyway?
My S22 Ultra does it...
I just close the screen and youtube keeps playing... ???
