Vanguard Beta (Fileplanet)

I am a subscriber to www.3dgamers.com and you can sign up to the Vanguard Beta on there.
I get excellent download speeds from the UK servers, normally 650kbs - 750kbs (About as fast as my alleged 8mb ADSL Max ever goes).

3DGamers is a handy DL site for all sorts of Demos/Betas/Patches etc and they are currently offering the closed Beta of Test Drive Unlimited amongst other things.
 
i'll give it a go but it sounds a bit boring, according to the ign preview the devs think that players like to explore, hence the world is huge. They give you mounts and ships at an early stage but the one thing i hate doing in an mmo is finding things and having to find the entrance to a cave or something to move on.

i doubt it'll take me away from guild wars but we'll see.
 
I hope this is a temporary thing, until they get the European servers up or something or I won't be impressed. Especially after downloading 7gB.

First impressions of the game are not good im afraid :( combat is slow and dull
and even on lowest graphics settings it jerks and jumps all over the place,I don't have that bad a comp a64 4000 2gig ram 7800gtx.
has anyone got it running ok? i seem to have trouble with gfx not loading armor and weapons etc.

This is very unfortunate. I've been looking forward to this game for a while now.
What's the music,graphics, size of the world, quest type like etc etc.
Anything else you can tell? Screenies?
 
There's some screenshots in the 800x600 thread, graphics looks pretty nice. Wasn't an awesome rig it was being played on either so I think 7800GTX should have handled it fine. Bit strange that.
 
There's a load of guys in my clan playing it at the moment, and they're all over Europe :confused:

General consensus is that it's good, and has tons of potential, but it's also very hard. If you like your hand held through quests, and generally want everything handed to you on a plate, it's not going to be your thing at all. If you like exploring, and actually having to figure things out, you'll like it.

Going to give it a try myself, but not till retail. There's a debugger running in the background at the moment apparently that slows things down.
 
My Vanguard beta folder is 22GB! /grumble

To anyone who loves EQ2 you should really try Vanguard while it's free beta, for me it's better than EQ2 and it's the game that EQ2 should have been after EQ1. Everyone is different, I love having a huge world to run around in and explore which is something EQ2 never really did.

Combat seems about the same as most other MMOs now days, go into attack/cast spells/use abilities mob or you dies. Wait a little bit and do it again. Group combat is slightly harder but I've got a feeling that due to the type of chr I play, quests are worth doing and very much so at lower levels.

As for game specs/running.

I have a 3500+, 1GB OCZ and an 6800GT. I do have to turn it down to High Performance but it runs fairly smoothly usually getting about 30-35fps out and about and down to 20-25fps in town. Have not tried a raid instance or somewhere with vast amounts of people but I've got a feeling it may struggle. Maybe visiting the OcUK shop soon.

Game still seems to need a bit of work, mainly on the server stability and finishing off a few broken quests and class balanceing. I think they will struggle to get it all done for release but then what MMO has been ready at release date!

All you need to do is find a "high anonymity" North American based web proxy server, slam it into your browser of choice and then click the sign up link :) Then you get your beta key ;)

I suggest google for "proxy server" might yield some results.

Thanks, I think it was because I was being lazy and using web based proxies, instead of doing it through the browser.

All sorted now. :)
