Vasectomy - Whos had it done? NHS/Private

I'll loosen up now I know why you keep recommending people buy Citroen Berlingos :D
I own everything outright.
Do you?
I also don’t feel the need to post ‘spec me a car’ posts because I’m too stupid to work it out for myself.
I’m also able to transport my family and belongings without having to ask anyone for help, this includes camping and mountain biking.

Hi All

I couldnt find a recent thread on this, ive been thinking about this for a while. I have two kids, they are great and all, but i dont want the chance of any more. I find fatherhood really tough, i dont want to do it again.

Its a proper chore to get to even speak to a GP these days, Ive been waiting 6 months or something for an ENT appointment, i havent even had the date through yet. So it would probably be a long wait for the NHS so i'm considering going private, to just get it done. Sex life is not exactly great, but it does happen occasionally... My wife is off the pill now, so its condoms, which i dont mind really, but i just cant risk another kid lol.

So who has had it done, and did you go NHS/Private?

Thanks
I had one 3+ years ago as we don't want any more children. They don't do it on the NHS anymore, or at least they didn't when I researched it. It was quite expensive (can't remember I'll see if I can find the invoice).

Honestly it was painless, scalpel-less surgery, was in and out in 30 minutes. Hardly any soreness. Couldn't do deadlifts or heavy squats for 10 days or so, but was able to start doing some swimming and lighter weights and then after 4 weeks go back to beastmode. Then had to offer a "sample" 16 weeks later - it provided the all clear.

Honestly was absolutely fine and very happy with my decision. I have no soreness or pain or undue sensitivity in the testicles - no more than usual, until your children kick you in the ******** - but at least you know the damage that is done won't be an issue! :D

As someone that has regular blood tests which measures everything from hormone profile to lipid profile etc... my testosterone levels are good (above average) for a man in his 40s. :)

My local NHS referred me to an expensive private clinic who did it on the NHS. Was in and out in 30 mins, some minor discomfort, i'd say about 4/10 for pain threshold, working from home I didn't need any time off work either. Nowadays it's all keyhole surgery so just a mild discomfort and a dodgy walk for a few days

I've had it done, 3 years ago on the NHS, was a seamless service of seeing my doctor why I wanted it done. Referred to appropriate clinic , had surgery within 4 weeks and the operation was only a 3/10 pain wise.

Had a lot of aches and pains for about 2 days afterwards 7/10, after that it was fine.

Hah, yes, while it was something of a strange experience to be making small talk with someone while a stranger poked at my bits, thankfully the nurse assisting with mine was old enough to be my mother, if she'd been young and hot it probably would have been a far more uncomfortable experience

You have to attend the clinic for the sample? I just had to send one off.
Hmmm, I had a letter on the way out of the operation with a tub saying I had to drop a sample off within 30 minutes of making it at a different location, or I could attend the location in a room to do the deed.

It must depend on the trust, I had mine done on the NHS last year

This is one of those things I want to get done but never get round to. With waiting lists so high it hardly a priority.

I guess it would be difficult for me as I have no kids.

Can you just lie about having kids to facilitate it?
We don't have kids and at 40 the Doc said at your age you know what you want - that was 38 yrs ago and I have never looked back (nor the wife)

Some practices/hospitals have policies whereby you must be above a certain age 40, and have kids that are above a certain age. My GP referred me to a local hospital
that were happy to do it. I was 37 and had no kids.

Had it done about 5 years ago. 2 kids already, didn't want any more, was about 38 years old.

Went in NHS, op was about 20 minutes, bit of chat from the nurse assistant, a tiny bit uncomfortable, nothing major. Wife waited and drove home, went to Costa on the way home for a coffee. Wore cycling shorts for a couple of days and ibuprofen, but back to work next day without any issues.

Had mine done at the beginning of 2020 just as covid was kicking off. The worst bit, that actually wasn't even that bad, was that they hadn't used enough local anesthetic and I felt it as they grabbed/pulled the tubes through. They quickly number my nuts properly and all was fine.

As a few weeks passed I felt, I wouldn't say tender as that's overstating it, but maybe a tightness. It wasn't anything to be concerned about not even a discomfort and it eventually passed.

I called my GP for a referral in January and have been referred to Airedale hospital who don't have the capacity to do them at the moment so there's a huge waiting list I'm far back on.

I'm thinking about going private instead. Can anyone had who's a recent experience comment on the potential cost?

Thanks everyone!

I'll get in touch with the GP, though getting through on the phone is a right mission, then they'll call me back while i'm at work and i'll have to discuss it at work... awesome lol.
