Indeed, good point. What if, also you wish to use your car to escape from armed barons on a regular basis through small shopping centres, FWD is handy there as well, as there it's more forgiving.

A situation about as relevent, I feel.

For me it definitely is relevant, 105mph is the limit here how fast you can go without losing your license when caught, thus that's the speed to do at 3am on nsl motorways...

Plus, as I've said a couple of times before, I drive to Poland a couple of times per year, and 90mph ( imho a speed not too slow, and not too fast for motorway travel, a comfy laid back but making progress speed) is the speed I mostly set my cruise control at when on the A2 between Bad Oeynhausen and the Polish border, when a jam pops up somewhere I drive faster after it to make up for the lost time.

Yes, fwd is a pain at most normal situations, but high power fwd is still welcome at higher speed cruising.

Sorry, how is any of that relevant to this thread?

Do they even sell VXRs over there?

I cover quite a lot of Motorway miles and never need to put my foot right to the floor when I'm at cruising speed.

Go on, at what speeds then? It's understandable that if you don't go faster than 70mph, you don't need any more power, but if you'd want to do the double ? Surely you understand that if someone can go fast, he likes to do so once in a while ?

Then again for the OP it might not make too much sense unless he's planning to do massively over the limit, but russ9898 says there's no point in more power, yes there is, perhaps not on your little island, but there's certainly a use for it.

If you were going to blast around Motorways at 130mph why would you chose to do so in a front wheel drive hatchback when your average RWD saloon will be more stable at such speeds anyway?

Why am I even arguing with you given nothing you say is relevent to anything and nobody listens to you anyway? :p

because Vectra VXRs werent limited to 155 mph meaning you could cruise by the BMs and Audis flat out at 155 doing 161 pulling faces at them on the autobahn ? :D

well in other words bought I bought the vxr today
the dealership "hope" to have it ready for thursday they need to tax it and valet it and this takes 2 days?? I said I will be getting it for thursday, im impatient but for spending that amount of money there is no reason why they cant get it ready for me for then

as one member sells a vectra VXR another one buys one

Hope you enjoy it, and for what its worth i'd keep it standard. Remap seems more trouble than its worth imo, despite what the VXR forum zealots say.

Here's my Cavalier SRi hatchback up against an S2000 at Oulton Park in damp winter. I'm the camera car.
Jump to 5:20 to see the S2000 almost stack it, and showing why RWD can suddenly can get very dangerous.

And the same car again, up against a Impreza Turbo in the wet. 4:30 of the film sums it up. I will add that Impreza driver could not drive for toffy mind. It may look a little slow on tape, but Oulton track in these conditions has so little grip. It's worth pointing out i'm around 70bhp down on the Impreza, so it's my corning making up the difference! And yes that's 15yo Vauxhall FWD making up for power against electronic AWD in wet!

However I agree with you, RWD is better then FWD (I say this owning an Integra also) However given a mere Cavalier is doing the above, FWD is hardly that bad!

Handling and stability is more about setup however, and it would take a well setup RWD car before I surrendered my Integra.

For most average drivers (including myself), I believe FWD is far better bet to explore a cars limits in however.

TBH the main thing is the engine. Id find it tiring having to ring its neck to get anywhere. The Clio was a bit like that but no where near as bad as VTEC engines are. Other small point with DC5's is that they are all imports and insurance would be an issue. DC2's whilst a good car are too long in the tooth now imo and still has the same tiring, high reving engine with no low down power what so ever.
