Vega 56 worth it at around £200?

I can't help thinking we'll see some good deals on the RTX2060 in the next couple of weeks.
With the rumoured refresh, some existing RTX SKU are likely to be dropped, or see a price cut which could make for some good deals.

While I don't think it will be a cheap as Vega based on the MSI deal, there has already been one card at £250 with another at £280.

Only concern I have with Vega, other than noise, is that AMD will now be optimising for RDNA, so once GCN is no longer a lead platform, it may not get much further development.
The next couple of weeks could be interesting, just a question of when and what to buy for my Zen 2 build.

Interesting, 2060 OC vs Vega 56 OC/Undervolt - I imagine those extra 2gb of VRAM will be handy in a couple of years

Navi is still basically GCN. It's partly marketing fluff tbh.

AMD also tend to support their older offerings fairly well.

What noise? My fans will not spin up until it hits 50 Celcius, which it barely reaches now undervolted

The least expenisive cards have blowers which aren't known for their silent operation, especially when OC'd
I currently have the RX580 Red Devil Golden Sample which isn't too intrusive with the twin fan open cooler so looking at Vega as it would support my freesync monitor, however current deals are seem to be mostly blower or you get closer to RTX pricing.

The 5700 is also priced $30 above the 2060 RRP, but outperformed the 2070 in the AMD demo which would indicate some adjustments to come.

You can get non blower for not a massive amount more though.

If you're dead set on buying form here then buy the Pulse or Red Dragon.
Without mentioning retailers (obvs), which cards/brands are you looking at?

I thought the Pulse was one of the better ones? Not particularly keen on the Red Dragon... it looks a bit longer as well.

Blower cards are never quiet TBH.
The blower price is $30 more than the 2060, but that probably does not include any VAT, so add 20%. I expect the 5700 to come in around £400, with the aftermarket coolers starting from £450

Thanks again. I've been looking at reviews and initially they looked fairly equal, with the 1070 pushing ahead in a few titles my son likes. But I then found a few reviews updating their results for 2019 and the V56 appears to have pulled quite a bit ahead of the stock 1070 and approaches a 1080 in some games. I was genuinely surprised.

It definitely seems to have come into it's own. My last card was an OC 980 Ti (rough equivalent of a 1070) and my brother's V56 was a decent amount faster in everything bar one benchmark (Unigine Heaven). For £200 it's a great buy.

Obviously I think the Pulse is a good card. Otherwise I wouldn't have suggested buying it, IF you were dead set on buying from OCUK, the best two options are as I advised.

Yeah apparently it is one of the better ones. Allegedly the "nano PCB" design cards like the Pulse tend to be the better clockers and have better VRAM?

But don't quote me on that, just regurgitating.

My wallet is ready, anyhow. Hopefully I won't need the lube either!

For anyone thinking they may drop water cooling on one of these, block availability is very limited, and unavailable for many of these models so check you can get a block for any card you buy.
