Vega 56 worth it at around £200?

Yeah it really is a bargain

The whole new generation is dissapointing IMHO especially if you are a more mainstream GPU buyer. Who would have thought Vega would be the price/performance champion under £300!! :P

Hmm decided against the £200 blower edition. Apparently it really is like a jet aircraft taking off at load.

Balls. Big hairy balls.

The Gigabyte non-blower isn't much more though.

Thanks, didn't think that would actually be a 64 at that price so pulled the trigger on that.
Assuming it's via the tax dodgers, it's a hacked third party seller account. If you look at what they have listed, there's tons of stuff suspiciously cheap. Happens all the time on there. You should get refunded under their guarantee though.

I thought it looked dodgy. My spidersense said don't get greedy!

Looking them up their registered address is only 20mins from me. I would cancel having done a bit more digging on the owners. If you fancy a punt see what happens, there's plenty of cover for buyers these days. Not sure I cba with the hassle though.

Do you think it won't actually be delivered then?
Not a chance. I assume the scammers get away with the money too and the tax dodgers foot the bill for refunds directly, as it's been going on for years. They wouldn't keep doing it if they weren't making any money from it.

 hopefully I'm covered if it doesn't arrive, I paid on CC but hopefully Amazon will sort this if necessary. They had good reviews and there wasn't many left so I rushed to make the purchase and this is what happens...

I almost got a Gigabyte non blower until I looked at the reviews.

Generally the afvice when I bought my V64 was to get a Sapphire or Powercolour non blower. I assume that's the same for the V56.

I'm in no rush. I am building my son a PC of his own so I can reclaim mine. But if nothing of good value/price/performance turns up thrn I will just put my V64 in his system for a while until I can get ine of us something. I will just dig out my spare trusty old 7970 for myself in the mean time. I still have a bit of time anyway as I am seeing what happens with Ryzen 3k before buying a CPU and motherboard. Also happy to buy used components if a good set turns up.

This. The reviews of the Gigabyte Vega cards are awful.

Lots of people reporting crashing, overheating, poor quality components...

Yes I did read a few. How do they get out the door when they're that bad? Commercial suicide.
It's because the market for AMD cards is small. So some manufacturers don't design a cooler for it. They simply adapt an existing nVidia cooler from their range to save money. So it isn't as efficient or may not cool some parts of the card. They may be fine running stock in a well ventilated case. But start pushing them and using them in poor ventilation and they don't perform as well.

I understand that Sapphire and Powercolour did design proper Vega coolers, which is why they are recommended.

I think the best bet for a cheap Vega card is the B Grade Sapphire Vega 56 on this site that goes down to £200. They're been on the site at that price numerous times, the downside being you don't get the game bundle. Personally I don't fancy either of the games bundled and wouldn't want to faf about selling them. Obviously you'll want to thoroughly check it out as soon as you get in case it's a dodgy card.

I've requested the order be cancelled anyway so my request is logged in the amazon system so will see if it registers as such in my order details in the next couple of days.

Glad to hear that, felt a bit bad when it looked like it wasn't legit. They seem to have "sold" all nine though. I usually miss bargains by being too cautious!
