VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

Before you get your hopes up... remember the 470. Initially it was like £10 cheaper than a 480, and some (looking at you, Asus) 470s were more expensive than 480s :p

You really shouldn't expect anything "for free" these days. If it performs like a 64 don't expect it to be £100 cheaper ;)

thew 470 cost more because of the mining scandal i remember it was cheaper then 480 for awhile evenn on launch till the mining fiasco

benchmarks etc show the vega 56 a really good card

Yep, ive had Xfire disabled for well over year now, its utter garbage, you soon get sick of having to quit out of games and disable it when you load them up, because you get terrible performance, stuttering, graphical problems, this, that and the other.

Exactly why I got rid of my 295x2. Amd crossfire was always more hassle than it was worth.

Isn't that what I just said? :p

The RRPs are not massively close together for the Vega cards,so only miners could possibly push it up by £100.

The issue with the Vega 64 air cooled cards,is that I can see custom Vega 56 cards probably having similar performance, with better cooling and being under the $499 RRP of the air cooled Vega 64.

I expect possibly the reference cards will be initially the cheapest ones under £400,but again miners might screw this all up.

:(

There you go. RX 470 AIB models (MSI, Giga) at ~£190, compared to £200 for the Sapphire 480 4GB (the cheapest AIB 480 by about £30).

There is precedent to suggest that the Vega 56 might not be much cheaper than the RX 64 - IF the performance delta really is marginal between them.

Yeah RRP as you say is not any kind of real assurance in this day and age. Even without miners, if stock is limited, retailers will put on a "low stock" tax :p

For what it's worth miners will probably be noticeably more interested in the 56 than they were in the 64 as they have the same RAM, it's just factory overclocked on the 64, it's not predicted to mine as well, but for the price it's expected to be a better performer.

The problem is AMD themselves have admitted it has 40 new mining instructions,so once these actually start getting used, the rates might go up! :(

So to get one of these you now have to buy other hardware you don't need? I already have a Ryzen system and a freesync monitor... and the games don't interest me in the slightest.

Nvidia can get away with insane prices on there cards when they are the only one with s fast cars. AMD cannot seriously expect people to pay £550-600 for this?! Embarrassing.

/salty AMD fan. :(

Yet it's selling fairly well I believe.

People have voted with their wallets and they have chosen to buy.

Looking around no one has stock anymore and everything has go up. One shop is asking more than £550 now when it was RRP a few hours ago.

So we've come to realise after all of this that AMD fans seem to think because they bought a Ryzen they have to buy a Vega? They do realise buying the better green alternative will work with their CPU's, right?

Or they would literally buy anything from AMD...

If people are happy to purchase them after seeing the figures then so be it, so many members on here get caught up in thinking other members purchasing decisions should follow the same mindset as their own.

Glad to see all of OcUK's stock of these sold out so quickly and I hope all those that wanted Vega for gaming got their orders in. I don't mind admitting that I am somewhat surprised to see them all gone so quick and not sure if it was miners or just the price that was key but great to put some needed funds into AMD's coffers :)

Why is it bad to buy AMD?
I don't really need the horse power, the most intensive game I currently play is "the forest".

Memory:
It is actual new technology and not some even more overclocked, optimized and rebranded old technology.
Chip:
It is more general purpose than purely optimized to run a certain demand at a certain resolution. From the benchmarks I figured the higher the resolution the better the chip compare to the 1080, where it is the opposite.
Software:
The Radeon driver is much more intuitive than the old nvidia software look. The profile thing is nice and I just like it.
Relive is brilliant, I never used Shadowplay so cannot compare here.

It is newer than the 1080 and the driver is young for the chip.

It may improve in time, most likely it will.

But at the moment:

- More issues with certain games
- Runs hotter and consumes more power
- Slower than GTX1080 but priced the same

It's good to have a new GPU on the market that's freesync compatiable in this performance bracket - so I think Vega 56 is a great card for this reason, but overall, a mediocre card and I wouldn't be interested in one over a GTX1080.

Pre-order prices now £549 - you would want to be fairly illogical to buy at that price.
