VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

NVIDIA still cannot meet demand for Pascal so they have zero reason to release anything new <snip>

Care to qualify that a bit?

"nV... have zero reason to release anything new..."

...in a hurry?
...this year?
...in the next 12 months?
...this decade?
...ever again?

So is it fair to say that for all the talk of nvidia being the company that pulls tricks on its consumers and reviewers that AMD have been upto some shenanigans by having reviewers over with a lower 'launch price' which in reality was only for a very small number of units before a pre planned hike to the actual price which arguably tips the Vega 64 sku's over the price point at which they could be sensibly be recommended over a 1080 for anyone whose not already tied into free sync?

I think it's simply the case of there being limited quantities right now so they're trying to make more profit. Once more are available the launch price will be what AMD announced but stock could take a few weeks to be readily available at those prices.

Perhaps I am getting cynical in my old age bit to me it looks pre planned. It was anticipated in advance by pretty much everyone that stock would be limited on release so the very limited launch price stock followed by a very quick hike looks suspect. I wonder whether reviewers were told that it was just a launch price and how many will want to re visit their conclusions/ score for the cards at the current AMD price

Some people will take those joke tweets as the real thing. I know they shouldnt but thats what happens.

Observe Onion news.

The whole deal with price will have anyone in the industry shaking their heads I think. Its not in their interests to overprice the card, what any big company wants is the revenue of sales. They spent a big chunk of money on R&D and now they need a big chunk back. The idea they'll want 50% margins on a smaller amount of sales doesnt work for them, the total money they get back will be smaller.
Electronics especially have economies of scale to its product life. That was one take behind Gsync having that premium to it.

They'll lose market share and it would just be bad business sense. Vega is going to be sold into a wide variety of markets at different prices, so its very ambitious. Ultimately they will want to sell as many as possible at any price required to achieve that.
That is probably why they have the Vega 56 to give a chance of sales they might not get , Im not sure they have any benefit from binning to do it otherwise. Its an artificial product placed to get sales to that demographic

just a launch price
Its the msrp but then can anyone make a profit selling it at that price apart from AMD. AMD says yes its achievable, I presume it just needs the numbers and right now there isnt enough being made.
If they dont have the numbers they must make it up on margin to cover fixed costs I guess. When they got more sales going through prices will be at MSRP and with profits

Looks like sales have dried up, in stock all over the place now. :p
It was selling when priced decently, now that it is priced silly, suddenly sales have slowed down. On top of that anyone that may have been on the fence, AMD pushed them over with their antics. Many people just went and gave money to the competition. Very sad situation.

Yep at 450 I was in but no way am I paying what they are asking now, if the price does not drop buy the time wolfenstein is out ( my next game) then I'm going 1080 and sod freesync
Wolfenstein benchmarks will be interesting to see. Lets see if this "rapid packed math" is worth anything.

Yup, a few places have had stock of the blower version for a few days now. The aio cooled one is the hard one to get, and at £800 i don't see too many shifting, £162 price increase that's nothing but pure profiteering. And to be perfectly honest, even at £638 its overpriced for the performance it delivers. Should be £550-£599 tops.
