VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

But are the next branch of Nvidia cards going to have a price increase like Pascal did?

You used to kind of know where you stood with forthcoming releases but Nvidia really upset the apple cart when they dropped the ludicrous 1070FE prices and we've snowballed since then. I'll eat my hat if their upper midrange XX70 variant doesn't start at £400.

If you got one at 350, it's marginally outperforming 1070s in lots of games, and can only improve with drivers... that said u have to question the value when nvidia release new cards at end of this year or early next.

56 is definitely faster than a 1080 if you undervolt it to stop it thermal throttling.

Buying Vega56 is a difficult decision with no time to make it.

The reference cards look over-engineered on the VRM, but under-engineered on the cooling. If you can get them cheap and use a waterblock then great, otherwise not so sure. If you are going for a waterblock, then you want to win the silicon lottery. The modding done so far suggests that there is binning between Vega56 / Vega64 AIR / Vega64 AQUA, but it is too soon to know how much this matters under heavy cooling.

Fortunately, current hash rates suggest that there will be no trouble flogging Vega in the next few months.

Until such time as NAVI launches, almost certainly.

TSMC have made a node specifically for NVIDIA for Volta, it isn't really any denser than current 16nmFF+, and die sizes will increase somewhat again. Clocks are going to be really high (therefore yields may go down).

So yeah, I'd expect 20% increase across the board.

Oh, and GDDR6 is likely to be significantly more expensive than GDDR5X until production volumes are higher.

Humour me, if another thread starts with release links can someone say so here, I'm on my mobile refreshing and it's a mission to look around.

At this point I honestly believe that that is what AMD would like, i'm of the belief that AMD are also trying to bring up the prices of GPUs as a whole on the market, because they know that they can't gain market share, but they can at least try to get a bit more profit out of the market share they have in the long run.
I don't think the "higher" prices of Vega are solely due to the fact that it is more expensive to produce, but also the fact that they want to drive GPU prices up, because 399 and 499 is still overpriced IMO.

Well, AMD have said it numerous times that they don't want to be seen as budget brand anymore so I think you're right.

I'm not sure creating a graphics card pricing bubble is in either of the companies best interests. They'll force a point (they're doing it now actually) where people will either stop gaming on PC due to the prohibitive costs, keep their older cards for longer due to prohibitive costs or switch to a console, due to prohibitive costs.

You'll get the diehards that keep buying overpriced cards, chasing those extra 10-15 FPS every cycle but they'll get fewer and fewer.

I mean that is tantamount to price fixing and collusion. And that is illegal. And even then only works when the consumer has no choice but to buy the product. That is not the case here. GPUs are a luxury item. Too expensive and people won't buy them. Or switch to consoles.
