VEGA IS FINALLY HERE, ITS IN STOCK ALONG WITH SOME EPIC BUNDLES & FREESYNC DEALS!!

This Vega launch is like an experiment in marketing.

Complaining about UK prices is kinda moot, considering the exchange rate for sterling right now. Go for dollar pricing and you get the reality. Unfortunately the "limited release special MSRP" debacle is a joke.

I don't care if it is AMDs or the retailers fault but it's the consumer who are getting shafted. It's as bad as the Nvidia special founders edition prices for 1070 and 1080.

AdoredTV has just done a video history of GPU marketing. He concludes that AMD should have followed the example of the NVidia Founders Edition launch.

1) Hand the reviewers the most over-specified and expensive cards that you can put together.
2) Get great reviews that only criticize the price.
3) Let the AIB step in with more realistic prices that the punters will love.

AMD seem to be trying to do the opposite.

Looking at other sites to compare 56 prices I noticed the 64 on sale for 469, can't say where so it's seek and tho shall find

Gibbo has the same deal on 300 Vega64 tomorrow. They should throw in some shark bait and see how that goes.

imagine your the same boat as me and many others, both the time around on the 64's when i got let down and ended up cancelling 3 days later, and again now where my 56 is showing same status ;(

Sucks for us! Hope we get good news tomorrow!

What time did you place your order?

What time was your order placed? My one was placed at 14:03, only 3 mins in but mine says processing clearance...

Surely the stock couldn't have gone in 3 mins lol
mine was bought at 14:01 and its out for delivery tomorrow so it must have Oo did they only get only get a handful?

My third order (the first two were denied by my bank) was placed at 14:02:03 - paypal saved the day!

I don't believe so by the fact that they didn't limit it to 1 unit per order. They supposedly have 1000s that can be sold standalone (more than the 64) just that because of the bank holiday their stock deliveries have been staggered. He said that consequently they would be shipping in through the week then get sent off to those orders who are still waiting.

Nah, see this is revisionism at it's best from AdoredTV.

First: There were a few reviews that negatively mentioned the Founders Edition 1080 coolers were not up to the job of maintaining boost clocks. The only thing over-engineered on the founders edition is the metal shroud. The FE cooler gives no additional cooling benefit over a cheap plastic one, all it does is bump up the price. This is exactly the same between a black RX Vega and an LE one.

Some links to show I'm not talking out of my ass.

Second: The AIB 1080 prices were meant to lower than FE, in actuality they came in dearer (at least in UK). It was blamed on supply and demand. Same old same old for us consumers.

Third: The AIO version of RX Vega is doing exactly what Adored is claiming AMD "should have" done. "Hand the reviewers the most over-specified and expensive cards that you can put together.". In fact Adored got one of these very cards to review (the irony).

The truth is that the 1080 FE cooler was barely capable of keeping even the low TDP 1080 in check. It most certainly wasn't over-engineered.

Something that may interest some, I was doing some benchmarking and testing over the weekend and at one point I had my reference V64 and one of my reference GTX1080s in the same machine. With both cards running a custom fan profile to stop them from throttling under full load (which both do out of the box) the V64 was of course putting out more heat and using more power, however it was also slightly quieter (the 1080 could be heard over it) and the noise was less annoying to boot (noise of airflow as opposed to spinning of fan). This was something I hadn't expected from the way people talk (presumably as it's not something you would encounter with both cards at stock fan settings).

Revisionism is the name of the game in historical accounts.

We can certainly tell a story of poor reference coolers being replaced by better and more expensive AIB models. The Vega Frontier Editions are even better examples of over-priced entry models that the Vega AIO, but for those interested in pouring good money after bad, there is still room for relatively cheap improvements to cooling, etc.

Why do AMD and NVidia keep issuing poor reference cards to reviewers? Why do they always seem over priced or below cost? Are they just helping out AIBs who can scarcely earn a crust? Or it is a conspiracy to give forums something to talk about?

If / When i receive my 56 - i may look to move the arctic accelero 3 i have installed on my r9 290 across to it, dependent on fitting. Looking to seel the 290 and still have the reference cooler so will likly whip that back on which leaves me with the spare accelero.

Yeah, because nothing says overpriced like a $999 card that puts a hurting on the competitions $1200 card so bad that they are forced to release a new driver enabling locked features they never intended to give consumers so it can compete ^^

This constantly baffles me, if anyone has a sensible reason i'd love to hear it. Surely the additional cost for a better cooler doesn't add an extortionate amount to the cards (particularly to the large scale manufacturer ) , otherwise AIB's wouldn't be able to make them either at a reasonable price ?
