Vega refresh in 2018, current Vega is broken!

The only reason this rumour is getting traction is because people want to believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Surely Vega should be better than this? Surely key components are not working the way they are supposed to? There must be a better product coming that fixes all Vega's shortcomings and gives us the graphics chip we were promised and all hyped up for?

It's believable BS because so many people that were let down by Vega need to switch their hopes to the next big thing coming down the pipe, but there's just no way to trust any product until it arrives and has been tested. Has Vega taught us nothing?

i thought being hardware enthusiasts we usually ignore random rubbish people post on forums, are we now listening to it instead? not sure who all of these people who have been let down by vega to, mine has been an absolute star.

I think it’s fair to say there will be a refresh come 2018 and that it will offer improvements.

To what extent is debatable but yes it looks like the hype train is being resserected (again!)

Pascal is doing well for me and does what I need. Not sure why you would say that but I guess your 290 is still coping fine.

My biggest criticism of Pascal is that they've basically managed to peddle mid-range cards as somehow high end and people lapping it up :( it isn't really a forward looking architecture but it does the job today and its pretty much a given when proper DX12, etc. stuff comes out nVidia will have something that does the job then - always been the way.

After some of the utter BS talked about Vega by some of the people linked to this - how it was only working at half speed, etc. I'm surprised anyone entertains it.

I went from Maxwell Titan X to a 1080 and then a 1080Ti and the 1080Ti really does shift in terms of raw performance in games. I game at 3440x1440 and I can't remember the last game I turned any settings down, so Pascal really does do what I need.

My view is that people want to believe it because it matches their idea that AMD are so hopeless that they would release a card with non working features that they advertised beforehand. The fact that people are credulously lapping this unsourced nonsense up reflects badly on them IMO.

I'm happy with mine post-tinkering. Out of box isn't great but messing about trying to improve hardware is part of the fun (for me at least).

But this rumour isn't getting traction? Most people believe that there will probably be a refresh, but, hardly anybody believes that there are hardware features not working on Vega. If you read the thread on Hardforums and read the thread here, most people don't believe it.

Well what Vega has thought me is that reviews don't tell the whole story either. It actually reminds me of the release of the 7970. AMD seems to like releasing cards with very poor stock settings that don't show the true performance of the card at all. Remember there was so much potential in the 7970 that they were able to release a Ghz edition without actually making any hardware changes. It's the same with Vega, the out of box settings are terrible. With just a couple of tweaks, Vega will run cooler, quieter and use less power while performing better. Vega has been better than my expectations.

I checked some of the post history of that guy who started this rumour on Hardforums. That he has an issue with Vega is putting it mildly. I haven't been let down either. Like you, I have been very happy with Vega, especially it's VR performance.

I got my Vega LC especially for VR and I'm very pleased. Not that the 1080/ti could do an equally good job but to suggest Vega is incapable is unfounded nonsense.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this like:

"Breaking news!! Your current gen graphic card ain't going to be as good as the next gen card (now all you people that just bought the current gen card should be upset about it!)"

Guess some people just want to watch the world burn, or don't want people to be happy or want to take that away from them lol

Not really
If advertised features don't work, but will on the updated variant then it's not even close to the same lol.

Not that I put stock in the OP

Exactly this ^^

AMD GPU's are really in trouble then If these "mid range" range and so "low end" card beat there High end and mid range.

Yeah If Nvidia had better a better DX12/Vulcan design and dropped each card down a bracket. No way would the Vega 56 would look as good against a 1080 at 1070 money.

Yeah Pascal is we'll past It's sell by date even with 10% more alcohol.

Don't think so.

My biggest criticism of Pascal is it is so quick that I can not be bothered to install any of my fastest ones in my 24/7 PC, ATM I am just using a 1080 Ti FE air cooled card.

Having said that with the new Star Wars film coming out I feel the dark side calling me.:D

TBH,looking at the Steam Hardware Survey,I would argue people are lucky to even have GTX1060/RX580 level performance:

http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

There are almost double the GTX750TI and GTX960 users compared to all the GTX1060,GTX1070 and GTX1080 users on Steam(apparently).

Over 70% of people who answered the survey have something no faster than a GTX1060.

To put that in context a XBox One X probably has a faster GPU than most gaming systems on Steam!

Meh! You keep your card and I'll keep my money.
