Vega refresh in 2018, current Vega is broken!

At least amongst Steam users from looking at the CPU section - looks like despite the success of Ryzen those Coffee Lake CPUs have sold a ton - way more than I expected and even seen some people moving over.

EDIT: I don't think RX Vega is being properly accounted for in the hardware survey - either that or the numbers are so insignificant they don't even factor but given the timing of the drop on AMD I suspect they aren't properly being accounted for - though it still won't massively change the numbers.

Heard that the resurgence in Win7 is due to China.

Seen a few comments connecting it to China and PUBG but also the fall update for Windows 10 seems to have resulted in a not insignificant number of people reinstalling 7 due to the issues it is causing.

I did some calculations based on revenue on the two companies and the split was more like 5/6 to 1 not 10 to 1. This was based on lots of assumptions as AMD bundle their CPU and GFX sales into the same bucket.

Yup, Windows 7 is a lot easier to pirate and so the flood of new gaming systems being built in China for PUBG/etc mostly run it. This is why Windows 7 usage seems to be increasing on steam whereas in the wild it's decreasing.

You have to remember that the Steam survey is quite flawed and also indicative only of gamers who use steam so won't reflect actual GPU sales (especially as Steam doesn't have any mining apps lol).

Going by a mixture of other sites looks like Windows 10 uptake has eased off a bit since the fall update and the falling Windows 7 numbers slowed down a bit - some sites showing a slight swing back on Windows 7 but averaged over several sites the rate of change flatlined rather than the ever increasing rate over the last year or so.

It isn't all that flawed despite some people claiming that who then go on to demonstrate they have poor knowledge of how it works. It isn't the most accurate survey ever but the results are fairly representative of Steam users.

It doesn't seem to be picking up on RX Vega correctly at this point but that won't massively swing the numbers.

considering some of us opt out of the survey to.

edit: my mistake

Individuals opting out shouldn't skew the stats by any meaningful amount - it polls a cross section of the user base - the sample size should generally represent the whole within a margin of error.

apparently results are pulled from a 12th of the user base by asking people to participate.

I think it’s fair to say there will be a refresh come 2018 and that it will offer improvements.

To what extent is debatable but yes it looks like the hype train is being resserected (again!)

I wonder if I could get resserected too?

I was going to correct your spelling for you but then I thought "How do you spell ressorected?" :D

Shame they didn't replace the cpu as well.

As they are using a cut down OS dedicated towards gaming and lower level APIs,the impact is not as bad and I suspect Ryzen would not have been ready in the timeframe for the updated consoles. Having looked at a mate playing HZD,I was impressed by the world that was created and some of the interesting graphical tricks they used in the latest DLC:

The PC tends to be more a case of brute forcing things sadly. It makes me wonder if the PC was more efficiently used as a platform, that extra power could be used to really improve the fidelity of graphics in games,or the basic interaction in the world around you in the game.
