Victim of crime - Bike stolen

I had my custom bike stolen along with a mates Tricked out GT Avalanche, We were on local trails doing a bit of work before riding them, Put the bikes against a tree and walked litteraly 30 yards to grab a log to build into a jump, Turned back and two little scumbags were flying down the hill on them, Couldn't catch them as it was so steep and they were off. I still managed to get a throw of a hammer in just missed one lol

Sorry to hear what the scum bags have done Chris.:(

My Muddy Fox was stolen years ago from the back yard, they lifted it over my dad's car to take it away even!

Some weeks later the Police phoned me as one of the officers remembered my description of the bike (it was a unique bike for this area) and asked me to come down to claim it.

I learnt that they arrested some bloke on another charge and he had a bike in his house, my bike!

he had changed my Shimano V brakes with some crappy knock off cheapass chrome brakes to try and make it look different but unfortunately I never got my brakes back because according to the police they were on another bike which was also stolen and the girl who reported it stolen said that was her bike and everything on it was fine......weird.

Hope you get your bike back.

Think the lesson here is to store it inside. I bought a couple of 30p carpet type things, that are fairly hefty, so I can place the bike on them rather then proper carpet. But it does mean brining it up to the 3rd floor (live in a block of flats). Still some free exersize there ;)

my bike is outside and cost me £1500 its got a ground anchor which is 2 foot in the ground and a 11mm Pragmasis Protector chain and Squire SS50CS Stronghold padlock to keep it there.

Thats pretty much what my mate had. He had a round anchor inside a locked shed, in his back garden which is a terraced house so the only way they could have know about it is to have watched him going home on it.

They went in there and stripped everything off the bike leaving just the frame. There is very little you can do against a persistent criminal. I had mine stolen a few months back out of my back garden, was about £1000 worth of bike in its prime but it was getting on a bit so it didnt hurt so much when it was stolen.

Bought a second hand road bike to replace it. Something not quite so shiny!

Gutted.

I've got a hack bike that I use for going to the station and nipping into town. Despite two D locks and a cable (from the saddle to a D Lock) and anti theft skewers I've spent more on replacement parts for the bike this year than I originally bought it for.

I'm lucky that I can keep all my bikes in the garage and that at work, I can actually put it next to my desk.

Amazing isnt it, that we pay for all these insurance policies, but when the **** hits the fan, suddenly all these rules come out and the insurance companies wont honour your claim.

True, but the alternative way of looking at it is that we assume we are getting one thing and then don't bother to ask questions or read what we are actually covered for.

When my last bike was stolen I hadn't added to my policy as a specific item because I didn't know it had to be. I do now.

That sucks really badly! I had a load of stuff stolen from my car that was parked at my parents house (where I Was living at the time) and the insurance let me claim for the contents of the car that was stolen on the houses contents insurance,
they paid out 1k in the end which was less than the value of the stuff stolen but still a very nice suprise!

Just had a call from the police. They asked me a few questions about my bike, they found someone with one matching my description but they're not sure if it's mine or not. Even if it's not mine, at least they're looking for it, so that gives me hope I'll get it back.
