Victorian renovation build log

We've had a local company put plaster coving up in the current and last house, the last house had some funky shapes in the ceiling but because the coving is made to order its still not set when it arrives on site so has a lot of give and shapes to the ceiling as it dries.

Slow progress, but little update

The room is really warm and quiet, it’s so much better than it was and well worth all the effort it’s taken!

Now the focus is on the master bedroom. I’ve got to install 25m of coving and make our ikea pax wardrobes loom built in!

@Mason- the picture rail is wooden and from a local timber yard

Ok, big confession…. The coving is actually expanded polystyrene
Cost <£200 and took me 2 hours to do the whole room

Nowt wrong with the polystyrene nobody will ever know from ground level once it’s painted and the savings in materials and effort is massive!

We used polyurethane coving for all of ours. So quick to go up, and as you say with decent height ceilings you really cant tell!

Now focussed on the master bedroom.
Put up 25 metres of XPS cornice and a ceiling rose and stuck up a chandelier

You can see in the last picture the bow of the old ceiling, hopefully won’t be too noticeable once it’s all finished

Another year (and some), another update

Nearly all my focus this year has been on commercial expansion so the house has been progressing in small bursts

First off had the shutters fitted - not blackout but plenty dark enough for us

Then it was a lot of painting and hanging the bathroom doors. The idea is for the bathroom doors to look like another cupboard/wardrobe

More dodgy joinery my me, thank god for caulk!

I love rooms with 10'+ ceilings. I can put my hand on the standard 8' ceiling if I'm wearing shoes and it's a little claustrophobic. Plus being so tall there's no room for nice lampshades, let alone chandeliers.

After summer holidays work started on the ensuie. Boarded out, fully insulated external wall and a sound deadening in partition.

This is the shower end

and this is the toilet end

spot the mistake!

To get hot and cold water into the ensuite we have to make a hole in the wall through to a neighbouring bathroom. No too big a deal as already had to smash a hole in the side of the bath to fix a leaking tap flexi.

as you can see the floor was cracket too due to poor laying onto too thin a ply base

So took the oppertunity to put a nice marble floor down and change the tiles a bit
