Viewsonic VX2025 - PRICE REDUCTION!!

Also could someone explain the image scaling thing clearly for me?

Cheers,

For example, in my Philips (NeC too) Just changed the res in windows to 1280x1024, and select Native mode.

You get only the center 1280x1024 pixels displaying the image, if you select filled with aspect, it stretched proportionally still with boarders.

This is in native mode.

The viewsonic does not have this option, if you select anything smaller than 1680x1050. The monitor will stretch the image to fill the screen regardless. So the image shown isn't proportional.

Ok thanks appreciate that!

I heard Nvidea GFX card can force 1:1 ratio, im currently using a X800XL (plan to get X1900XT end of apr). Anyone know if ill be able to do this on these cards?

Thanks,

P.S Kinda a downer as it would look great next to my VX912!

OT question here, how big is its box? :p Im always on holiday during the summer (3 months+) and need to store my comp's stuffs in my friend's place so an huge box wouldnt be a good ideal :p

cheers

there's certainly the option in Nvidia control panel to do image scaling, but whether it works, we're not sure yet

Baddass et al, looks aside, is this monitor better than the PHILIPS one?

Is it the same panel?

Need to order soon.

very hard to say. The spec of the Philips 200W6CS suggests it is using the same panel as the VX2025WM and the Belinea 102035W (a P-MVA panel from AU Optronics). However, since Philips are part of LG.Philips, the panel manufacturer, this adds some confusion since you'd expect them to use their own panels, most likely S-IPS panels. We haven't had full clarification of what panel is being used in the Philips, and there hasn't been any reviews at the major sites like THG and BH yet, but reports from users are certainly good. Tough one to call with the info available....

Well sadly I'm having to return mine :(
Colours are great, text is razor sharp, no visible ghosting and it really does look the business.
However, whenever I have a dark background all four corners go really hazy. From what I have read I can only put this down to back light bleed. On a completely black background I would get a black cross pattern. Really quite annoying as more and more games seem to have dark backdrops.
Really is a shame as it was pixel perfect in every other way

what happens if you move your head to the side so that you are looking at the corner from head on, as opposed to from the middle of the screen glancing sideways? (hope that makes sense)

Not in front of it now but, if I remeber right it the image seems to fade out much like a TN screen although to a lesser degree. So its much easier to see the lightness in the corners looking straight on but, difficult to see as this effect drowns it out slightly when looking from an angle. When playing a game whenever I'm in a darker area the corners are lighter and the colours fade out due to this.

Hope that gives you a better idea of what I mean.

Edit: Im not an expert by any means but, thinking about it is there a chance these are using a TN film panel??

sounds like it could be a viewing angle anomaly, i've heard it mentioned elsewhere. not due to the backlight uniformity since when you look at the side of the screen and corners from head on, it is not apparent. This can be seen to a slight degree on the Dell 2405FPW as well, but you soon get used to it an ignore it. What about if you sit from a few metres away, do the corners look the same then?

Well on a totaly black screen It was still apparent. All the gaming I did was at normal distances and was enough to make it unpleasant.
Would be nice to hear from anyone else who bought one of these concerning this.

Cheers

And thank you for your thoughts on this Baddass..... :)

Yeah, it's a P-MVA panel. The colours and general quality of the image is much much better than on my VX715, even when i initially fired it up using the VGA connection.

Got it running DVI-D now and it's crystal clear. Not really noticed any ghosting, but then i think a lot of that is down to the person who is viewing the screen. I've never noticed it particularly on the 16ms VX715 either.

Not noticed any backlight bleed or screendoor effect in general use (windows/gaming) but i'll get a more thorough look at things over the weekend when i have some free time, bit busy at the mo.

Impressed so far though. Build quality is excellent, good picture quality and it's great to have all the extra space. Makes such a difference to run games in widescreen now, even though i've only had an hour or so to mess around with it.

On the image scaling thing - as i mentioned earlier you can't do this through the OSD. But there appears to be an option under Digital Panel Properties in the ATI control panel when connected using DVI-D that suggests it may be possible (i'm using an X800XT-PE btw). There are two options in there, 'Scale to full panel size', or 'Use centered timings'. But so far i've been unable to get it to work. :( I'll have another go at the weekend though. From my point of view i'm less bothered about this than some, as i have the 17" monitor for 5:4 games if i want to do that.

I think that I know where are you heading here ... some LCD monitors have the "illusion" of slightly brighter parts of the panel (corners) when you change your viewing angle and it's usually just down to the panel coat luminance related to the ambient light and reflections around the monitor.

exaclty. I've seen reports of this elsewhere on the net about this same monitor, and the guy later realised it was not a backlight issue, but down to the viewing angles and AR coating. Like i say, you can see it a little on the 2405FPW in some circumstances, mostly because the screen is so huge! :p

Hmm - If it is an AR coating causing this its a shame. In my case (opinion) any benefits from the coating are negated by this anomoly which almost seems to mimic backlight bleed if indeed thats what is causing it.
It's just so hard for me to judge as I havent had enough experience with lcd's or the potential problems with them to make a judgement.

Somehow I'm sure I heard my CRT laughing as I lugged it back onto my desk

Got mine today. I've set it up, but not really had too much time to experiment yet. Unfortunately, I've gotta go to work in a minute, so that'll be it for the night :(
Have run DPB and found one dead pixel on a white background to the far right. But it's totally unnoticeable unless you REALLY look.
I've had a quick look at HL2. :D
So far, I'm very happy that I've got this monitor.

Mine should arrive sometime today, depending how early it comes, i might be able to test it out. But I'm away from 5 tonight until sunday so might not have much time to play about.

I have a VP171s already and Can use the Catalyst Control Panel to force black bars at top and bottom for 1280*960.

Using a Sapphire X1800XT.
