Viewsonic VX2025 - PRICE REDUCTION!!

Ok, so i don't know a lot about monitors and how they work etc. but I don't think you can force the ViewSonicVX2025 to display 1280*1024 with black edges through the ATi Control Panel.

I tried it on my VP171s earlier and it worked fine (changing to 1280*960) but I just tried it on the VX2025 and it didn't do anything. still streched my screen.

Hi folks. I have just taken delivery of this monitor and have a few questions for the experts if you dont mind. I have it set up using DVi, 1680x1050 with the refresh at 60,but should I use 75? So far I havent seen any dead pixels and the monitor looks good but I have heard it is supposed to suffer from "screen door effect" but as I dont know what that is could someone explain it to me and tell me what to look for. It is mostly used for browsing the net and playing CSS which I think looks great but I also use it to watch freeview tv and avi's every now and again and this is where it seems to let me down. Watching the football today was pretty terrible due to the very bad ghosting (which dosent seem to happen playing games) and blurred images making it unwatchable on this monitor but could that be the freeview card I have installed to blame? Also on the tv side of things it only runs in a box in the middle of the monitor and dosent fill the screen which is also annoying is this normal. I have added a picture to show what I mean about the tv picture and finaly can anyone point me in the direction of any software that can help me confige it properly. Thanks.

60Hz is the recommended and optimum refresh rate for a TFT, so you can leave it at that. The "screen door" effect is where sometimes you can see the individual pixels and the spacing between them really easily. Tbh, it's not very common at all, and i havent really seen much mention of it on this screen or any others really for that matter. It's not a big issue...

not sure about the TV thing though, not had much experience of trying them, maybe someone else can shed some light on that :)

Baddass thanks for the quick reply. The screen door effect was what I was most worried about as I had read a few peopl were sending it back due to this, but now you have explained a bit about it and I kind of understand what you mean, but I havent noticed it all so that wont be an issue for me. I just put "The two towers"dvd in for a bit there and was quite happy with the quality of the play back, certainly far better that the tv anyway but the borders at the top and bottom of the screen are pretty thick (about 40%of the screen space) which I think is quite a lot considering it is a widescreen monitor. Can anyone else let me know what they think of the video playback and if they have the same concerns about the borders. Thanks again.

you could use the "zoom" feature on some media players to zoom in a little to remove the borders :) can help on films which have large borders due to the aspect ratio. However, on TV shows the borders are considerably less

Ok. I have had a couple of days to mess around with mine. The "dead" pixel seems to have come back to life!! Fantastic.
The only issues that I have had with the stretch-to-fitness of this monitor, have been,
My wallpaper, a photo of my 3 kids gurning out of the screen, was stretched. So I've got rid of them and got a nice widescreen paper.
Warcraft III is stretched. There is a fix at widescreengaming, but I can't be bothered. I can live with it. Not that bad really.
HL2 and WOW are a delight to play in widescreen, you could almost call it surroundscreen.
I am no technophile, neither I should imagine, are some of the other guys here. So for the non tecchys like me:
There is slight backlight bleed (I think) from the bottom right, when the screen is black. Can't see it otherwise. So no problem as far as I'm concerned.
"Screen door effect"? If I've got it, I can't see it.
Dead pixels, none :D
Oh, I've watched a DVD and a d/loaded My Name Is Earl. Both were excellent on this screen.
Coming from second hand 15" CRT, to a couple of second hand 17" CRTs, to a 17" Iiyama TFT, to this 20" Viewsonic, I can truly say that I'm more than happy with this monitor. If you're thinking about getting it, get it.
Only a couple more days on offer here at OcUK!!
Btw, does anyone know if you can actually fall in love with a monitor? I'm thinking about divorcing my wife and kids, just so me and Viewy can spend more time together.

Stretchy WarcraftIII

I tried taking a pic of HL2, but my crappy camera ran out of battery.
While I was copy/pasting the IMGs here from photobucket, I had two browser windows open side by side. AMAZING. Would've taken a pic of that too, but no new batteries.

I just bought one. Bit worried about how I'll handle the resolution. I've been running 1024x768 on a 17crt for 5 yrs now. Brave new widescreen world!

Welcome to the forums :).

Let me know how you get on. I'm running a 15" TFT @ 1024x768 and have done so for 2 years - I intend to get a 20" widescreen in about 2 months so tell me how you find it.
