Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

@embalse - I do believe a big white box just turned up at the door - Can only assume this is yours. - Current timeline puts it in my queue Saturday earliest for diagnosis!

Edit: It is your machine and damn these machines are pretty.

Gentlemen, some pics of some other stuff I fixed... Recent acquisitions etc... and some stuff just to waffle on about :)

So above I mentioned I had a caveman moment and blew up a JP wonderswan battery charging unit by plugging it directly into a 240v supply. This is the result of that, all fixed now but it made me jump!:

I bought an new hoover/blower thing! its awesome!

This stuff is really good for marks on cases, screens etc and isn't crazy abrasive.. good stuff!

I paid a lot... £70 for 2 wonderswan batteries and a charger all boxed... I researched how much this is... I feel like I got robbed in broad daylight.

Added Double dragon to the sms collection.. total win. And another 3ds pokemon case because I need to re-shall another 3ds... I did my one earlier in the thread so no point doing a full breakdown but its done now :)

All the wonder swans are fixed! I think I will keep the blue one... Might even give it an IPS... I have no reason to and will never play with it but aye its pretty cool.

Added this to my GBA, its total win.

I also got a new meter. Built in rechargeable batteries a pretty epic auto mode, is capable of capacitance readings... I really like it, so much better than my previous meter :)

Yep, it's mine. I did not open it when it came back from Asus, just stuck another label on it and shipped it to you....

Awesome couple of bits on early tomorrow, got a plumbing job to do for a 92 year old (dont ask) and then I have a nokia g10 screen replacement to do for somebody who runs the local corner shop (again dont ask) and then I should be able to get on with some bits in my queue :)

I started listing some stuff this morning and I think Pikachu is staying.... Can't bring myself to list the GBC as I dont have one lol. In other news I bought more GG's, more joycons... yea i know, i know... and more switches... and A hwfly lute just turned up (ordered because I have lots of lites and am bored).... anyway plumbing job finished, phone finished... I think we are ready to clear down the bench and start having a look at the queue :)

Not gonna try picofly?

I have all the stuff to do it but i wont lie I do not like the size and slightly ghetto look of the pico vs a proper dedicated chip sometimes it is about the aesthetics especially if its something I might consider selling. Given the hwfly is now like sub 25 on the lite there is little reason not to spend the extra few quid and do the hwfly.

Had a pretty busy day yesterday after some plumbing and running around like a mad man for most of the day I sat down, had some dinner with the wife and passed out shortly after. Woke up at about 8:30 pm and hadn't looked at the queue of stuff at all. So kicked off at around 9pm and hit up a few little bits... Had a lite in the queue for the hwfly treatment, really enjoyed the install, this isn't going to be so much a modding switch thread and there is plenty of cool stuff to come but since I haven't shared a lite mod (up until a month ago it wasn't worth the outlay) but now the parts are so cheap I couldn't help playing with a couple of my spare consoles :) This ones been in the queue for a couple of weeks, it was sold to me as a bsod unit for £40 and was originally a blue switch but it had clearly been dropped heavily onto something like concrete and had big gouges out of its case so its now a turquoise one with some mods, its good to see it done!

After that I had a customers Game Gear to look at! Quite a nice one, came as a no power unit a week ago, no red light boot, totally dead.

It got the full OG treatment and I have to say the OG screen is a nice one. Mind you I think the owner is looking to replace it regardless so back into the queue until screens turn up next week. Today at some point I intend to make a start on the Asus machine and at least probe it a little bit see if I can work out whats up with it.

Is that a custom theme on the lite?

Yea it is :D It's one of my personal consoles... I didn't want to sell it because of the APU reball, I wanted to give it an extended test but that was 3 weeks ago! it's been working perfectly so I couldn't help myself. TBH I use my oled if im playing switch so this was more just to do the install and hone my skills / mess around with. I like to solder stuff as you know and ive seen people moaning about the flex setup online so thought id try it myself... I thought the flex setup was absolutely fine tbh the end result is super clean.

question did you update the thermal on this to liquid metal or was it like that from factory?

Edit: its a factory install but is everywhere.. probably from being taken apart before :( no worries lets get on with this bad boy :)

OK... that was easy!

@embalse - Im going to have to replace a couple of filter caps and flow a few bits for longevity and to ensure a good fix.. but I need you to get some liquid metal to me if you can? I dont have any but this machine has it from factory :(

Asus, absolute shame on you... shame... a random dude in his shed spotted and fixed the issue within 7 minutes of opening the machine. Also the absolute savages made a mess of the inside and left it half assembled. Shocking service.

Hi Vince. Thanks so much. Happy to try and get some liquid metal for you. Is this the stuff you need?
