Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Some of this weeks broken stuff delivery... I'm already a good way though it...

the pads are labelled so you can see whats up with them... the xbox systems have a mix of faults, a few needed hard drives which is pretty boring, one beep on, beep off. nothing super interesting...

Finished the night off last night having fixed 4 of the 5 xbox one consoles and having cleaned up 3 of them ready to go...

I have a one X that's pretty much done and just needs a clean up now leaving just one that I'm not sure it's worth fixing.. paid 20 each for them and really just stole parts off of a really nasty one to fix the other 4. Seems like a win to me.

When I say nasty im not exaggerating look at this! This has clearly come from a heavy smokers house given the heavy yellow staining and just nasty dust build up...

I also fixed the pad which is now affectionately known as the **** pad! In other news I paid 45 for a Series S console and now also have that booting but it needs a HDMI port so thats on the cards for later tonight :)

Nice result on them Vince.Nice to get some wins once in a while.

Dug out my my old A500 plus and Wii last night. Surprisingly both still power up. need to stress test the Amiga, as I’m surprised it doesn’t need recapping and what not.

the amiga is a tank!! The A500 I love it... Just don't lose workbench floppy. If I had to choose Amiga vs the ST I think I would go ST every time!

O my days that is grim. You might need to open I new thread for biological experiments.

Another £50 series S fixed up and good as new!!

the port was no good! And the power board was missing a button... new parts on!

That's 5 of 7 fixed and the last one is on the bench, one is donor parts... I am officially the xbox man now.

Absolute breeze I really like working on the Series S!!
I never considered upgrading the SSD to a 1tb drive, seems simple enough, don't really have the spare cash to do it at the moment though haha :)
I think in the meantime though i'll strip the system to take a backup of the boot/1st partition so if anything does go wrong I can easily recover onto a replacement drive

Windows will not see that partition so do a raw drive image, then you write that to the new disk and then increase the user data partition.

It's the end of an era lads, we are xboxed out...

6 out of 7 is as far as we are taking it. I'm going to give some gpus one more shot this weekend before I admit defeat.

This is absolutely the way to do it. Do some stuff you stand a chance with sandwiched with some bits that stretch you at least that way you don't always just fail.

Nice Sheep.

Seems the best thread to ask as it's sort of ended up as occasional general modding thread. Has anyone used the new TMR sticks for the Dualsense? Any good? Thinking of getting an extreme rate backpaddle kit for one of mine and though while I'm in there I'll change the sticks as well.

Also I saw talk earlier of those cheapish T12 based irons, I've got an old FX888d, I'm used to it and does me fine for the odd bits I do, but it is the old style heating element & sleeve, worth an upgrade to the t12 type of iron?
