Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Why have I only just found this thread . . . I've only read the first post and I've got 25 pages to go . . . Great work on the Game Gear, my best friend had one when I was young, absolutely loved playing on that thing. Alas I only had an Original Game Boy, but still some great memories on that thing. Looking forward to reading more of your repair journey.

Will take a look :D

right well whatever it is...these pads are going to need some work.. got some normal pots just to make it easier to measure and im pretty sure its an issue at the control chip for the white one which means getting chips in and replacing it... to give an example the chip for a ps4 pad... £10 which renders it not worth doing... the other one ive not even looked at but I have a general rule for pad that if it doesnt turn on it goes in the donor pile. but I could make an exception and buy in some chips.

My 5 year old rework station failed on Friday so we replaced it. Cat is doing standard qc approval before we use it.

It's an atten unit and is meant to be much better than what I was using before. I hope it is because its like 5x the price of my old one.

And yes if you sent something to me at any point a cat has probably had a sniff of it to make sure all is well.

That will keep you busy :)

Will keep me entertained for a few days. This week's delivery will be a day early though so better up my game.

Most of it is done tbh, 2 switches, gba, psp are all sold and sent. Half the pads are fixed and half sold/sent so really I've got the aya and a few pads left.

That explains why my cat gave the game cube box a very thorough inspection.

Do you sell them on eBay or locally? Ever recap a Game Gear...? ;)

I have one from my youth that has been left untouched. Might need to see what you thought about looking at it. New caps and maybe a better screen? Any other mods you do/can recommend bar cosmetic ones?

Mines also got usb-c attached to a pair of 104050's in series. So rechargable and about 8 hours battery life. Love my GG.

Mines just thrown together really but still love it. Oh look that's also a forum members switch chilling in the background getting a new digitizer.

Oh wow, I wasn't aware you could do that! Sounds like a better idea than burning through the World's supply of AA's :D

More series X, some special edition pads. playstation portal. I also currently have about 20 elite series 2 pads so need a little session on them.

More xbox fixing this morning, want to get everything out of the queue so no display one x and a 360 special edition both finished off..

The no display one x.. no 5v pin 19 hdmi so dodgey esd. The series S has the same esd and I have a donor board...

So i took it off and did a quick hand reball as i dont have a stencil...

and away we go.. all i have left is about 15 things to fix which is the lowest its been for ages!!

I now have many xboxes again all fixed up and ready to go... I also have a series s not in the picture that's also sorted.. quite enjoying the xbox fixing atm.

And my new atten! Not gonna lie it's good ****.

That colour is awesome:cool:

I’ve just dug my one out today, stripped it down and cleaned it and now I’m googling options to get it working on a modern TV

I use my ossc or my scaler 2x.. both work really nicely with the 64. 2x is nice and cheap whereas ossc is about £100
