Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

That must take bloody ages!!

It did the first time lol.

But once I worked out a way that worked the second time didn't take too long at all.

Would 100% need to do it a different way if I was fixing controllers all the time, but I just fix my own stuff.

The reason I wouldn't normally do it this way is risk of board damage beyond anything else, time is clearly secondary... Hot air makes it an absolute breeze

Yeah definitely, that was my biggest worry when doing it and why I mentioned it twice, it really is one slip away from breaking something.

I do have a hot air station in my wish list, but I need to sort my shed out with a workbench.

I enjoy tinkering but no where near the stuff you are fixing lol.

I used to own a Amiga 500 as a kid so I've always fancied having a go at repairing one of those.

You should get a 500 man... A fixer upper!!! Good consoles to fix as there are plenty of detailed schematics etc available.

Thread is still totally amaze. I hope one day to find the time to release my inner Mr. Fixit.

:edit: oh and totally in for the big tips, once you've gone big you really feel the pain of using a tip too small for the job.

Doesn't count if you have one of everything :P

This week they even sent a bag full of random nintendo spares that carrier is full of like DS boards and batteries and joycon parts, controller parts... Its just a treasure trove of random rubbish in there. Also the snes is absurdly clean and like not yellow at all!

Hi @Vince

Interested in looking at this? I think it's a gonner...

A clients neighbours house got hit by lightening. Most of the village lost power.

When it came back their system was dead.

I've taken apart and it looks like it's been zapped via the LAN port. Interestingly their router is fine.

Cheers

Wow yea look at the damage down the nic to those filters... its probably blown that controller chip and then some. Any signs of life from it at all? I wouldnt have thought that the power rail that feeds that chip would survive something like that but then ive been proven wrong so many times its comical. Problem is sending something that massive around is just a pain - I guess it all depends if its actually worth saving. What exactly is it? Doesn't look like there is anything at all on that board to try and prevent massive voltage coming back down the nic.

I’ve already bought them a replacement on insurance. I was just taking the nvme out yesterday.

No signs of life at all.

It’s a Dell Inspiron 27. 13th gen i7, 1080p screen. Mild nvidia graphics.

Probably worth £350/£400 2nd hand.

@Vince - drop me a pm with your address - I've admit defeat with my Dualsense :(

Struggled to get even 1 stick off, and have scratched the PCB.

I've put it mostly back together and will send all bits including the replacement analogues.

Honestly much harder to do than I expected and should have just sent it to you to begin with, so sorry and also a warning for anyone else :(

Still no sign of my AyaNeo people  I might have been robbed of 250 and a handheld at this point. I can't even remember at this point how long it's been but it's many months

I've given up chasing for the past week and a half what is the betting they ship it while I'm on holiday?

You can guarantee it'll have an attempted delivery while you're away!

It's proper madness to think that this fiasco started at the begining of October  We are in Feb so that's a full 1/4 of a year, give them their dues it's only been actually in their hands for about 3 months  :D. Still I have no idea what's going on, It is all fairly comical.

All I know is that I have about £450 or so into that bad boy at this point and would quite like to have a fiddle with it... Although if they send a new factory sealed unit as they are now claiming then it has to go I think.
