Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

250 for postage is absurd but what can you do.
Nothing lawful, sadly.
It's a pity you weren't aware of the ridiculous charges ahead of time - I'd have been tempted to just bait'n'switch with a new, identical device, rather than go through the insane RMA process.

$250 for postage, their CEO hand delivering it for that?:p

I sent them an email detailing timelines last night. They have come back with. "I will see if they can just put a new motherboard in it"

So you have to ask the question what have they actually done so far? Also how much does a new mobo cost for their flagship?

We might be hitting a new record here:

And I still have no idea when I might get it back! they replied to my email yesterday with a "its done when its done" kind of email. Bearing in mind its been + 3 months and with them in hand for over 2 months.

As a UK consumer you just cant buy one of these devices really... if it ever goes wrong this is what you are looking at.

Email in this morning following my detailed timeline to them and they tell me they dont have any motherboards and they dont seem to have any parts available - They are now telling me that if its not fixed within the week that they will be sending me a new machine.

What a bunch of muppets. IIRC you punted for a new machine right at the start ...

It's been so long I can barely remember what happened at this point

Edit: They have said that if they give me a new console that they are retracting the offer of a dock  :p - I mean whatever really, I am not bothered at this point!

For transparency:

This leaves my current best estimate as around 4 months to resolution "if" they stick to the above. That's right 1/3rd of a year!

@Vince

Thanks for the tip. Bigger tip on iron + more heat and the holes cleared fine :D. Well mostly fine, there was one on each side that was a holdout and took a few goes, but got there in the end. New sticks are in.

Before I calibrate (assuming everything is working), this controller is not going back together yet (want to put a backpaddle kit on as well once sticks were done), when I calibrate, I assume I need the black trim piece on the front half of the controller? The sticks rest against that, so I assume that's what sets the range and doing without will break the calibration?

Also not that I was planning to get one, but that's Ayaneo on my list of "don't buy from".

Correct only run that once it's got its front plate on otherwise it will all get thrown out.

Little pic of some stuff I've fixed over the last day or 2:

I really need to start upping my YouTube and general posting game. I'm probably going to be a bit quiet on that front for at least a few months as the company I work for got acquired and I've been heavy into projects to try and merge infrastructure and systems.

But given it's the new year let's set some goals again. 500 YouTube subs by the end of the year and just better quality videos and posts on here I think not crazy goals but goals!

Is the problem child one of these.

No it's the 6800u flagship, 2tb SSD etc...

Yay controller seems fine, my first victim of hot air has survived :D. Need to order backpaddle kit now.

$900 and they will get to you in four months. That's a joke, for $900 they should have just swapped the unit like Nintendo, Sony, MS do.

Is there a recommended brand of analogues for Dualsense that I can buy from Amazon - going to have a go at replacing them myself at the weekend
Will also be replacing a soldered in rechargeable battery in my car key (Mini R56) so wish me luck :D

That's an impressive spec, but what games does it play given they have a foot in the intel and amd camps? Does it emulate windows or one of the other handsets?

Its a native windows 11 device - in theory it will play just about any game you install on it!

Didn't bother with Amazon in the end, ended up at aliexpress so will be a few days but have ordered a couple of HallPi as well as a pair of cheaper sticks, and some other cosmetic parts to customise it.

Just need to try and find the soldering/hot air station that we had at work that seems to have gone missing, as the one I have at home is only a cheap Aldi not temperature controlled one - if not then I'll be buying one as well :D

I have the hallpi sticks, they seem pretty good. Not put a huge amount of time on them because I want to put a backpaddle kit on, but they seem decent. Same as the gulikit tmr (confirmed, not just speculation) and those get decent reviews.
