So simple but such good results! Going to have to give it a go nowAll i did to it was put the retropixel screen with osd in it and a new lense
4 solder points is all it takes. You don't even have to get positioning perfect as the osd allows you to move the image around!! Great little upgrade it is, does require cutting the original case but is a nice easy mod which only took me about 20 mins to install.

i gave my faulty game gear (wont power on for more than 2 secs) to a friend who was going to re-cap it for me over a year ago.
Appeared with the box just before Christmas and said "yeah sorry i forgot".......
@Vince have you done a Game Gear before? how hard is it for an amateur to have a go at it? (apologies if silly question, i was lazy and didn't dig through thread to see if you have)
would love to have it working, but don't want to nuke it by accident

Game Gears are my specialty
well them and Nintendo Switch consoles. If you send me your details in PM ill send you one of my ceramic cap kits for it. Also if you wouldnt mind opening it and showing me the board (single or a twin) and ill make the cap kit specific for your board Some people find them easy some nuke them hard to say but you will need to replace some 20 caps.Here are just a few I repaired/modded on the run up to Xmas.. I also have a customer sending me 4 GG's this week lol
The blue one is an all original USA sports edition - I modded it with an IPS of course - Bloody lovely it is! So yea we game gear for sure!
There is also never a wrong time to flex the current GG game collection... I have the full library on my flash cart but having a physical collection I love!

How difficult are the IPS mods to install these days? I used to mod Gameboys and install backlights and bivert chips so I'm pretty ok(ISH) with a soldering iron lol

Still mediocre - Ill show you a image of one of my recent ones. I'm using a different mod board these days think I have about 15 stock or so on these. I also designed a custom set of brackets which you can find on my repair discord that are perfect for the GG screen mods. My end game V6 bracket comes highly recommended. Pics incoming!
Here is a VA1 twin.... I go nuts and remove everything thats not needed some techs dont but then the install looks poo. so remove 30 components or so... replace all the caps solder up the mod board, 8 or so wires... boom!

Special editions - Only one of them is a real special though the rest are aftermarket copies

I have just started being a bit active on it this year. So far its a Gameboy colour build, a steam deck build and a swan cart translation. I have 5 game gears on the bench over the next few days so ill do one of them
There is a link to it on the previous page... Im a youtube and video noob so right now production quality is poor and ive only just got a better camera setup to work with. Ill try and make it better this year as we go
