Wow, yeah that is nice. I absolutely love the box design of the GG.

I think it was my 11th birthday I got the + Pack which was the console, PSU and Sonic the Hedgehog and what a birthday it was. I utterly kick myself for selling years ago to help fund wedding. Obviously a worthy cause and got good money for it, but it was mint :(

They can all be saved pretty much, the big question will be around the screen. Will the screen be any good :) We will probably know later tonight

Well depending on how you think about it you either want a screen like this second one or you don't...



This one has dead hsync driver and a dead vsync driver in the middle... totally dead, boots plays games etc but the screen isn't one we can save :(

So this one needs an extra 50 spent but will also end up with a sweet ips. Now the dude is happy as he gets his wish of 1 out of 2 being modded.

I am seriously excited to see what happens with my Game Gear, most excitement i think i have had over a console in a while lol

Found out 6 games i thought i had lost.

Pretty sure i have Tailspin, Sonic Chaos and a few others somewhere in a box

Exciting - I mainly use mine with my flash cart which I have the full library on but do like having all the carts available :)

I had to focus on some actual work last night so pushed back your build :( Hopefully tonight is the night!

no worries at all, not in any kind of rush at all. Just super interested in what goes into the process :)

So fun, fun. your GG has been somewhat interesting. Screen is shot (I count 15 or so dead pixels before we get a decent image which is never a good sign), it straight up wont read games and after a serious amount of digging I found that the cart slot is the issue (luckily I didn't even recap it as it failed in testing before i even got to that point). The cart slots on these are rivetted to the board and a pain in the arse to swap so If its alright with you i'll drop that board in my donor pile (probably use its asics to transplant onto a different board at some point) and pick a random GG in my personal pile of GG's to steal a board from - We also get a second shot at an original viable screen this way if that's your vibe... will do a vid of all the testing at some point but yea we shouldn't move forward with this board. The consoles are so cheap I just don't think it's worth the time/cash investment on that board fitting an aftermarket cart slot or even swapping one from a donor especially when I have a pile of the things sitting here. What might be a more interesting project for it given all its asics/memory etc are all good is putting it on something like an syf board.

I shouldn't have said it's been ages since I have seen one that wasn't all that viable lol. Board wise everything is great its just a broken pin in the cart slot that's not.

That's pretty much my luck with these things. My Amiga A600 worked fine one day and then month later just stopped working, sent it for a recap and it was deemed a catastrophic board failure lol

Worry not my dude, Phatboy will go to the GG prom. Like I said i will swap the board for one I have here free of charge and we will pretend the board in your one never existed

That's all good, im going to get cracking on your one shortly as ive finished the two CIB ones and one of my own :) ... I'll do you a vid on the way through and ill also show some footage in there of your original ones screen etc. Swapping the board is also not as generous as you might think, I can assure you that it doesnt really cost me anything to swap the board on one of these, I pay a maximum of £30 a unit and say the board is a write off (normally because of cart slot issues) I can still sell the repaired sound and power boards for £25 and make use of the asics etc on custom builds bascially in the long run it probably costs me no more than a few £ to help a brother out.
 
Genuinely thinking just bite the bullet and say IPS it at the same time tbh! If I want to keep and play it for the next 3-5 years it may as well be serviced, capped and have a guaranteed long term healthy screen.

What say you?

I say I am about to make that decision harder!!! This one has an almost perfect original screen, but I have a board that doesn't as well so now the choice is yours, perfect og screen or do you want a modded one :)

The choice my friend is yours, you are welcome to whatever you fancy :)
