Ive noticed today that the new restrictions seem to be in place... on my 4.5mb line im currently downloading at 128Kbps... when the restriction used to kick in it would be 256kbps which was fine by me but the 128 is just fricking crap.

I used to have such faith in this ISP too. :(

128Kbps... wish I was in your shoes,

Currently getting 50% packet loss and 8Kbps, it took about 2 mins for this window to open... the halfwits say there won't be an engineer until christmas eve because they rekon its the modem.. I hate the company I work for :(

I take it you're talking about ADSL rather than Cable?

im on cable here. speedtest.net is showing me as having

so basically 98k down 12 up per second. pathetic. all i did was download some updates for XP and somne add on packs and suddenly im restricted.

That is poor! Sorry, I was just confused I wasn't aware there was anything other than 2/4/20Mbit lines, I guess 4 is the one you were on about. My bad! Ony my old mans 4Mbit connection, that seems to be running at full speed in Leics, my 20Mbit (according to the logs) is running full speed in Notts.

Also, that speedtest shows you're running at 1Mbit down. The restrictions aren't that different to the old ones in fairness I prefer them. Oddly, I downloaded over a gig around 5pm yesterday and no restriction was put in place! :?

Where are you?

Well speedtest says 5 meg for me but other sources i am getting 1.7mbs and always get 2.3 in normal times and normaly 1.7/1.9 in the traffic shaping times, i constanlty see speedtest gives poor results compared to downloading properly, oh 20meg cable btw.

im just outside birmingham.

Virgin Media cable (old NTL area) at 20:48, so prime time and in Virgins defence rarely do I get anything othe than the full 20mb and low pings.

Having tried different ADSL providers over the years (including, Nildram, BT, Orange and PlusNet) VM cable for me has been consistantly the quickest and most trouble free provider I've had. Maybe i'm just lucky /shrug

No its 983 down which is basically a meg down so its not as bad as your making out depending which package your subscribed to

im on a 4.5mb cable line. its as bad as im making out. 983 divided by 9.6 = your actual download rate. there for 102.3 kilobytes per second. it used to be 236 when restricted and 490 when full.

Why 9.6 surely 8?

4 meg = 514 KBps
983 = 122 KBps

So as you downloaded some stuff your limited to 25% which isnt that bad after all they do tell you about the restrictions?

Well i noticed in my area for past few days it been so slow... huge pings on games...am now at a freinds and ment to be on 10mb (virgin) and that is my result...(we live in pretty much same area.

I mean W T F?

I feel sorry for you guys, i can't believe VM have screwed over the existing customers of NTL. Is there no way for you guys to leave as they changed their terms and conditions?

I used to be with NTL way back and the service was always good for me, and thats between 2 houses!

Bangs head against wall, I cant remember how many threads about speedtest.net being absolutley guff for these kind of readings. Especially through peak hours..... VM as far as I know are not putting the new (better) limits on till after New Year, although their website has updated, or if its being rolled out across the UK in stages during January, I have no idea.

I am also aware that some area's are also getting better throughput than others due to take up of Bandwith, luck of the draw :( there I am afraid.

VM (BY) 20mbit although they are not exactly accurate. Best to download off their FTP.
