Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Yes I though so.. But mine is no longer responding on that IP.. Everything works though.. strange.

Known issue with the hubs, they tend to stop responding on that page. Reboot it and it'll work again, for a little while.

Generally, in modem mode, there's nothing much to see or do there, unless you need to access the stats page for support purposes.

Maybe a Unifi POE Access point?

Seconded. My single U6 Pro gives over 700mb to my phone and even sustains over 500 at the other end of the house.

Has anyone got the SH5 and noticed that the light on the front has gone from white to a flashing green?

Looking online it states it downloading an update and checking my logs on the router it seems to be failing to download\install.

Getting this under Advanced settings > Tools > Network status > network logs

I dare not reboot the SH5 in case it does not come back up as I work from home and it does not seem like its bothered trying again since the 14/2.

Internet is all working fine without any issues

Is anyone else experiencing weird intermittent routing issues lately?

Every now and then, maybe once every day or two, I get a brief period (half an hour) where some websites just stop working.
It's usually the same culprits - BBC News, VM's own status page and some others whilst some sites continue to work fine.
I can still ping and traceroute to the affected sites, just web traffic times out.

I'm trying to ascertain whether this is a VM issue or something at my end so just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar.

Seem to recall having issues in the past with this, rarely, but not recently.

Yes, been seeing this for what seems like weeks. Mainly in the evening but can be anytime. Has happened today at about 2 pm.

It’s been 6 months and it’s like banging my head against a brick, still huge packet loss and ping for approx 8 hours a day. Fed up now and complaints/resolutions/forums are all no good.

If it's down to an oversubscribed node, you're probably better off leaving the contract penalty free and going elsewhere until they upgrade the node that serves your area - speaking from experience it can take up to 18 months

Just two.

I've reverted back to non-aggregated for the moment. Had some other weird issues which I wasn't sure were related so figured I'd drop back to 'standard' mode for now and check all is well before trying again.

I have two potential hardware solutions. One is my current pfSense box which is a Qotom mini-PC thing with four Intel gigabit ports. This has the benefit of being very low power (about 10W) but is a slightly more complex config as I have to use aggregation on both sides, round-robin for the WAN to the Hub4 and LACP for the LAN side to my core switch. The alternative is a Dell R210II which has a 10GbE NIC in it so I can use the two built-in gigabit ports for the WAN side and then a single 10Gb link to the switch. Simpler but the downside is this box sucks about 60W of juice. With prices going the way they are, an extra 50W 24/7 adds up.

With both I seem to get this 'flakiness' where sometimes my speed caps at about 950Mb which, as I said, is too coincidental not to be the aggregation failing and it only using one port.

I'll experiment with it again when I have the time and patience but it's not that big a deal really. The most I ever saw in aggregated mode was just over 1100Mb and the extra 150Mb doesn't really make that much difference at the end of the day.

Mine since been playing up like mad.. Drops to 950mbit quick reboot back to 1100+. trying it on 2 port aggregation see if it works any better

I’m stuck there’s no other provider in the area mate I also believe oversubscribed however they’re telling me it’s only 10% of what they would call over subscribed. What did you have to do in the end to get it fixed?

I provided the ping graphs and speed tests at peak times and posted them to Virgin Media's official forums - one of their forum staff then passed it to second line IT who created a ticket - very long process though.. good luck!

This also depends on your router/firewall and as a quick test try connecting directly to another SH4 port with your a device on the same 192.168.100.x network and see if the GUI now works.

Good suggestion, but even through I can ping when on the same subnet (connected directly to one of the other ports) the GUI doesnt respond..

I just want to be able to reach the GUI in case the connection is down, so I can view logs, etc.. Without access I will need to reset the modem every time I need to switch to router mode (which I guess is the factory reset mode).

Your suggestion might work if I connect directly to the port now connected to my router, but I will need to test that a day Im on my own in the house, I dont think bringing down the internet will be well received by others in the house. :-D

Noticed on the TBB chart going from SH2ac to SH3 (sadly got provided that and not a 4 or 5) has improved latency, guessing due to using way more channels than before. Luckily not had any issues with the SH3 so far.

Well I can’t stand VM, my thread is about 2 months old now on the forum and it seems they’re pretty much admitting defeat and suggesting I cancel the subscription without termination fees. I really don’t get why they can’t just get to the bottom of it, I’m stuck as there’s no other provider in the area over 25mb.
Not sure what to do
