Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I’m about to phone and cancel next week and also don’t have much bargaining power, but I’m prepared to lower my speed, have 350mbps at present and will be prepared to switch to BTs fibre 100 which is between 100-146mbps.

Does anyone know the best route to take, should I phone BT first and get a package and price but not sign up, and then phone VM to cancel quoting my better deal?
Trying to figure out how to do it as don’t want to be left with no internet.
I just say I can't afford it anymore and would like to cancel and get a few offers, but as always the best ones will be when you hand your notice in and they phone you back.

Don’t cancel until your BT is in and working. But there are other providers you should look at, BT are quite expensive.

wireless doesn't work on my hub 5, if you try and enable it it just sets back to disabled. Getting hold of support to request a new hub, what a joke.

Once I put mine into modem mode I couldn't access the bloody thing to return it to wireless mode. The guy on phone managed to do it instead.

What colour lights are on yours? Have you done the whole reset thing

I would like a tv package and still need phone line, I’ve checked others and the speeds are abysmal, BT is the next best thing in my area.

I don’t mind sticking with VM if they come back with a good offer, which is why I don’t wont to have BT installed before I cancel.

What's the deal with the hub versions they send out? I think I've been on a hub... 3? for forever now. I remember there were reports of issues with gaming and latency years ago but I don't think I noticed it.
Going to be switching family over to VM probably next month from Talktalk. Sounds like the current hub is v5?.. with a whole set of other fun issues to deal with.

BT might be the only ones selling G.Fast, I don't know who else is. I missed that part, sorry.

Be careful with G.fast as they use high freq at shortern distance and using both fast rate adaptation (FRA) and Seamless Rate Adaption (SRA) at all times!

First Rate Adaption (FRA)

  • Gfast specific stability feature allows line to survive large, sudden changes, preventing unneeded retrains and unavailable time.

Seamless Rate Adaption (SRA) shifting

  • Allows the Gfast line to adjust the bit rate to changing conditions while giving the customer the fastest possible connection.

Did a full reset via pin underneath and after 5 hours on WhatsApp they reset it again and now working (software update/re-flash?). I only need it to test a problematic wireless client. Person on the webchat was useless, kept saying I haven't enabled it so it won't work. Err yeah.

I don't think they are correctly activating or something. It's like you install it and it thinks it's good to go but it requires an update pushing through it.

I'd advise getting to talk to someone on the phone instead of WhatsApp if you have issues because to their credit the person I spoke to patiently waited 45 minutes while I did some messing about with mine.

Mines been rock solid since then.

Yay cancelled had the confirmation and everything,
I seem to have had 2 calls from retentions already, but I’m not answering any calls I’m fed up with talking to them.
Just had an email with a link to my offers which expires on 17th August. Unfortunately the link doesn’t work.
Oh and another call I ignored, I just don’t want to discuss anything with them, just tell me your price and bugger off.

@ChrisD. Looks like they have turnd to stone on you!
4 channels just doesn't seem to work ?
I thought I was getting somewhere when their networks guy rang me and explained it might be a national issue with RFoG deployments. It seems very convenient that when I request partial credit on my account the fault is magically closed. He said he is away for two weeks but will check what's happening when he's back in the office. Unfortunately I only have his christian name and no contact details.

I've got a busy weekend ahead, if I don't get anywhere by the middle of next week I'm just going to do the whole CEO email route as I'm getting sick and tired of repeatedly being asked if I'm doing the tests over Wi-Fi, when their own engineers who visit see the issue on their test machines with the coax plugged directly into it.

for anyone who might find it useful, I'm with virgin, 1gbit internet only service and contract just expired. bill was going to be £65/month, cancelled and first call back from them they offered £32/month. I'm on O2 mobile so get the Volt uplift.

What’s volt uplift?

My parents are with virgin mobile, one is yet to move across to the o2 service while the other has recently merged onto o2.

But their internet package has not got anything with Volt in the name.

When the account owner for VM broadband/TV/Phone gets an O2 mobile phone contract (even if that's from being transferred from Virgin Mobile as part of their migration to O2), then you get your broadband bumped up to the next tier for the same price. The marketing for this is Volt.

Thanks, the account holder has not yet transferred to o2, so that explains it.
