Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Hi all,

I'd previously posted in here about Nexfibre (VMO2) rolling out XGSPON to our estate in December.

They've been extremely active across December and January and as of today, we can now places orders on the VM website.

That said I have a couple of questions -

1 - Does "Friends and family" discounts exist for VM? If so does anyone have any they wish to share?

2 - My understanding is that in XGSPON areas VM supply the "Hub5X" with a 10Gbps WAN port on it. However, I've been told that, currently, modem-only mode is not available on the Hub5X. Is this correct? If so I believe with would stop me utilising my existing router/Mesh setup?!?

Any help would be appreciated.

Theres a referral link from an existing customer that gets £50 off.

This is correct, but you can disable DHCP on the Hub and then pass it through as a WAN to your existing setup as I have done.

Looks like that they only guarantee 30 Mbps, which tbh is enough for streaming but they won't be anything as good as a dedicated system.
Not great then!
I've got an original Google Wi-Fi mesh thst I've taken down since getting the hub 5. Is it worth upgrading to a WiFi 6 mesh or just putting the old Google Wi-Fi back in? I can't run cables anywhere as my walls are all solid.

I know nothing about Google Wi-Fi, sorry. When I tested the Hub 5 the Wi-Fi was decent but it depends on the house layout etc. I personally use UniFi Access Points.

Virgin don't throttle, what makes you think that they are with 'certainty'?

Because the streaming service I'm using the VM customers are all having the same problems on the message boards this weekend. As soon as I use a VPN on my PC the problems go away, other users saying the VPN fixes the issues for them as well. I can't use a VPN on our LG OLEDs though so need it at the router level.
