Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Because the streaming service I'm using the VM customers are all having the same problems on the message boards this weekend. As soon as I use a VPN on my PC the problems go away, other users saying the VPN fixes the issues for them as well. I can't use a VPN on our LG OLEDs though so need it at the router level.
That could be many reasons, but they certainly aren't throttling.

You are a funny guy. Thanks for nothing.

Why is it tech forums always have at least one.
You asked for an easier solution to policy route your TV app over a VPN, one of which is to change ISP. Or you’re welcome to ring VM customer services and have them help you?

Buy a Fire TV stick.

Pretty much all of these dodgy streaming services will be blocked by large ISPs, they get told by the courts that they have to do it.

They aren't blocked as such. And its only recently that the streams are lagging/freezing but yeah VM are defiantly affecting the streams. Its a great service and not one I want to give up. Think I've found what I'm looking for now.

2 - My understanding is that in XGSPON areas VM supply the "Hub5X" with a 10Gbps WAN port on it. However, I've been told that, currently, modem-only mode is not available on the Hub5X. Is this correct? If so I believe with would stop me utilising my existing router/Mesh setup?!?

Had this installed in November with a Hub 5X and switching to modem-only is there, but hidden. I've not tested it though: 192.168.0.1/?page=modemmode

Ended up disabling DHCP and tweaking the PiHole config, and then moving the Eero 5 Pro setup across, which works fine so far. Obviously slower WiFi than the Hub itself, but range all over the house and garden.

What speeds are you getting with the Hub5X?

Pixel 8 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro hitting around 630ish down on the ground floor and first floor, 100ish up. Drops off a bit to around 300 on the second (top) floor but retains 100 up. Nintendo Switch OLED is abysmal and works better off the Eero!

For kit still connected via the Eero, they don't max out the Eero 5 Pro speeds, but they're consistent and strong.

Anything wired gets pretty much line speed from the 1000/100 connection otherwise
