Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Sorted this out for £22 a month
M125 with volt double as mum as 02 but it doesn't say it is volted, but speediest shows 268mb
This £20 deal was actually emailed 2 me but I missed it hence why the rep said he could bring the price down hahah

Thought it was just bad in London. Nope, bad everywhere else.

The bit I was puzzled by is that it handles travelling at train speeds spectacularly badly. I used to log on to work or steam stuff on WCML/ECML trains but after switching to O2 this was impossible.
The final stawer for me was when i was in Stafford Town Centre, not a huge town, bit a county town non the less and the data was so slow i could barely load a webpage. Ive since moved to Talkmobile (Vodafone) who are superior in every way

O2 is unbelievably bad is so many areas I frequent. It feels like I used to get more reliable mobile internet when I used WAP!

If it wasn't for the free roaming (particularly in Switzerland and USA) and Volt doubling I would have gone with anybody else. Though with O2 recently sending me an email and somehow thinking that a 9% increase on £8 means I should be paying £14 it looks like I might still be making the happy jump to any other network.

Ive personally had a positive experience with VM's broadband, the Gig1 speeds are consistent even during peak hours although I think it helps that Openreach FTTP has long been available in my area alleviating contention issues I guess.

The TV has been good too, I miss some of the UHD Sports channels but for the price i oay vs Sky I really cant complain.

OR availability has nothing to do with VM’s capacity or infrastructure in a given area. That said, since LG came in they have made massive improvements behind the scenes to standardise services and improve efficiency, but that had started post merger and it’s not always obvious.

Also the TV side is horrible. When VM sold Flextech and withdrew from the BBC partnership in Dave etc, they gave up any ability to negotiate favourable terms with actual content providers. Last I looked they were pulling pre-encoded streams from other providers and then re-encoding them again which was hot garbage to watch. It was especially amusing when you would get fault calls because someone had hit the remote and the feed box and the EPG was up.

Indirectly, I would argue it does, if VM are the only provider in the area to offer speeds in excess of 80mbps ie an area with FTTC and VM only then there is likely to be more uptake on VM's broadband offerings in turn leading to over localised utilisation of a cabinet/the local back haul vs an area where FTTP is widely available and as such less strain on the VM network.

My current contract with VM costs me £43 per month for Gig1, whatever the top TV package is including Sky & TNT Sports, movies, a second box and Netflix. Ill take an epg being shown on screen for that much although to date its been very reasonable IMO

When I moved into my house I only had the possibility of getting VM, if I wanted 100MB+ BB which I did, so I signed up as I got a good deal as well. When the deal came to an end the price they quoted to stay on the same package was ridiculous and I probably could have gone for a faster package for the same price.

By this time other fibre deals were available so I moved to Aquiss. I still have the VM cabling etc outside my house. Normally I'd leave it there and not bother with it but over Christmas/New Year I got a few flood warnings for a river close to my house. I decided that I needed to look into ways of stopping floodwater, if it ever happens, getting into my house. Unfortunately the cables used by VM go through an air brick. I would like to have a cover that I can put over the air brick to keep water out. To do this I would need to get the cabling removed. Is this something I'm allowed to do myself or, as I guess, I'd have to ask VM to do this as the cabling/infrastructure belongs to them?

Is there a special department at VM I can contact to arrange this rather than go through normal Customer Service and go round in circles for ever trying to get hold of the right team?

I mean, it’s a lovely theory, but you honestly can’t think for a moment thats actually how VM capacity planning works?

Anyone had any joy getting a Hub5 out virgin. Currently have a Hub4 and did the LAG to get full speed. Contract up and everytime I call just get a foreign call centre who can't understand why I want a 5 when the 4 supports my service.

Do I have to cancel to talk to someone over here?

I had an intermittent fault with my Hub 4, after multiple calls they finally sent an engineer, he checked everything and said the Hub was likely at fault, he was going to replace it with a Hub 4 straight away. I asked about a Hub 5 and he said they get a few but it would take a day or two, I said I was happy to wait and sure enough, he brought one round the next evening.

They don't like giving them away from my experience. When I ordered VM last summer, in the initial order it stated Hub 5 and when it came to fitting the guy put in a Hub 4, he begrudgingly got a Hub 5 out of his van after I pointed it out but he didn't seem particularly pleased about it.

Have swapped my setup around to get 1130mbit back. Using pfsense in load balance rather than LAG. But so annyoing as a hub5 would sort my problems properly.

I got one via the online chat when I negotiated a new deal a year ago had to go Down the cancellation route normal customer services didn't want to know,

then some engineer turned up wanting to check / test the hub 3 no idea why I told him it was a done deal hub 5 was part of the new contract he accepted that and went back to the van and fetched me one.

I got one in Dec 23, my hub 3 (I think) had it a long time, started dropping the wifi, took about 3 phone calls to India with the usual swich on switch off stuff, the guy said I would be getting the same hub to replace it, however we we received a Hub 5 which has been really good.

I remember I got email if I wanted the Hub 5 which I accepted it was delivered and just plugged it in myself , Think I had the hub 2 or 3 at the time

Has anybody changed their email passwords recently? When I try to change passwords on Virgin's website, I end up at "Mailbox app password management" where there is a button to generate a new app password.

I had an e mail as well.

Lasted a year before it had to be replaced and due to no stock I got stuck with an SH4

On the VM chat now, ask for a cheaper package and he/she/it said “I can definitely help”, then offered me a more expensive package, I'm now cancelling.
Edit:
Well I ended up getting the 1Gb + O2 sim for £17 less than I was paying for the 500Mb.
