Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Tried speaking with Virgin as my contract is up, currently paying £43pm for 350mb - best offer was £31 pm if I agrred to the Volt bundle. £25 for the 250mb broadband and £6 for the sim both had mid contract price rises. Brsk are now in my area so gave them a call and ended up using the one touch switch system and will be paying £27pm with no mid contract rise. can complain at all....unless it doesn't work.

I had no issues going with BRSK. It has been solid. Initial pro-rata payment and full next monthly payment had no issues when they took them. I didn't use the one touch switch, though.

I still have an active virgin connection as I didn't want to chance no connection, but cable from wall been removed from router and all turned off . It is sat waiting to be shipped back to Virgin once the termination completes.

Dreading my renewal in May, current package
M350 broadband
360 TV full TV plus TNT sport
Phone line with weekend calls
£42

Not a chance in hell I'll get near that. They were just adding tnt as an extra package when I renewed , so on the phone I couldn't get it included as part of the pack. But online I could do took deal and it went through.

Think it's £18 alone for that now. To be fair with TNT I only really use it for champions league and the tivo doesn't get used for recording.

I find it amazing how we all just get random prices... I was paying 43 on contract for 1 gig. That rose to 65 out of contract and they said the best they could do on the phone was less that the renewal deal I got through the website. I obviously told them where to go and got vodaphone 910 mb for £36/ month. Don't stay with virgin when they hike the price, shop around!

I'm stuck as need TV package, I managed to reduce from £66 to £51 for basic tv, 1GB and phone a while ago now.

Going to chance my arm next time and try and get Sky sports and TNT in for a good deal. I see people here paying less then me for this package so why not.

I used online chat to get my reduction.

Cityfibre installed all their cabling in my area during Covid and the following year I had to renew Virgin on a 2yr deal (£59 for TV/Phone/250Mb).

There are about 6 fibre installations I can see have been connected up and running, but when I go to any site to check, there's no availability.

I'm out of contract, so we're cancelling, and changing the account into my name (it's in the wife's name) as currently a new customer gets:

362Mbps

200+ TV channels

For £33/month. Increasing to £36.50 a month from April 2025 then £40 a month from April 2026 bill. £119/month from month 19

I noticed the same thing near me, various men from a fibre installer had been up telegraph poles and messing in the cabinet about a year before I could get fibre. A couple of people on my street had got fibre too including the house directly over the road, but whenever I tried to check online it wasn't available. Even emailed the company I'd seen installing stuff but they said I couldn't get fibre yet either.

I'm not sure what the reason would have been - maybe just shortage of installers for actually running a new line to my house from the telegraph pole? Idk. Anyway, did get fibre eventually but meant I had to do the cancellation dance and renew with virgin for 18 months when I didn't really want to.

Looks like you've got a good deal for TV + reasonably fast broadband though tbf.

Was paying £41pm for my 1GB internet only package and got a text to say I was out of contract. Went to my online account where I was met with a online contract renewal . To my surprise it was for £37.50 pm to keep my existing package so just took it. Last renewal was an absolute ball ache with a few phone calls but was pleasantly surprised with how easy this was and with a better offer.

Renegotiated my contract over christmas. I was paying £29.27 for 500mb after it originally being £27. Managed to get them down to £23.37 for 500mb with very little effor this time whereas last time it took 7 phone calls and loads fo arguing to get them to agree to £27

We're on the verge of going from full package to phone+broadband only.... Under £30 for 500 sounds very palatable but may need a new TV box if they take back theirs?

Virgin contract up on 10th Feb. Going up from £84.60 to £144.82.
Currently get
1gb
Sky sports
TNT sports
Anytime calls (never use)
Sky movies (don't need)
Max it TV
2nd box
Netflix

Tried the renewal dance and they're offering it for £115. They were going to let me quit there and then.
I currently have a renewal offer on my account to keep everything the same for £92.39, going to £95.89 April then £99 April 26.

I'm not sure I'm going to get it cheaper than that. Unfortunately there is no other option in my area at this time.
What do you think?

RE: my disconnection.

so they generated a bill today for me £55.48 which comes out on the 11th Feb

I got on phone and they said I'll receive another bill on the 3rd Feb that will be for £1.60 approx and that they will credit me the rest back of the £55.48 and that they can't change the bill I received today.

I warned them its a big red easy button on the current Direct Debit!

Anybody know if this is custom practice or is it a shady tactic from them?

Perfectly normal, it should have been explained as part of the disconnection process, assuming you spoke to someone. Basically the billing system will bill you as normal, once your account disconnects any advanced payment is credited back and a refund cheque issued, but it'll generally be 3-4 weeks later by the time you get it and if you have moved, I hope you supplied a forwarding address. Cancelling the DD will result in a failed payment being reported... that would be self-inflicted stupidity.
