Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Just done done remote tests on my home pc from my phone. 50mb performing great here. 47mb 1.5 speediest and A rating on ping test. 1 jitter and 12ms ping.

We can't see any Virgin Media cable services at this address. Please check and try again.

That's not a good start, my bill for 100Mbit says otherwise too :P

I got fed up of the 30-40% PL and switched my Draytek over to WAN2 :(

I was looking into going with virgin broadband but after reading this thread im not sure.
All i want is the 50mg package, just broadband nothing else. I want to to download big MMO clients and of course play online games but i hear the latency aint very good?
Also do i have to use the superhub at all if i want to get my own better router?

gaming can be poor depending on your area and latency/ping isn't the best.

you will need the superhub as you have to run a virgin modem, you can't run your own, but you can set it to modem only and use your own router.

if you have sky or be LLu services available i'd go with them, in that order.

sounds like utter rubbish

Totally depends on your area, despite the odd very occasional outage (I mean VERY occasional, like twice in the last five years) my service is absolutely fantastic, with low pings, zero packet loss and consistent 50mb speeds.

Be looks good and i remember hearing good stuff about them. Im currently with Orange who have been great in the last 5 years but the fastest speed i get from the is 8mb which i seem to dl at at about 750-800kbs. And the online gaming has been great with them so i hope BE are just as good.

For a start, that's not the VM 50Mb support line:

This is: 0800 0520431

Apparently, the black porting (what the noise issue was) has stopped, and isn't showing up on my line anymore, so will be checking over the next few days to see if my internet is fine again. Hope so!

However, I do have the phone number for a network manager in Glasgow, so I'm a bit happier

Yeah, aside from my issue for the past month, my service is been ace. Think I've only had 2 outages (been with Virgin 50Mb for a year since August) and had VM in my old flat for 2 years with almost no issues. Always good speeds and pings. I played WoW on a VM 20Mb line, was excellent.
