Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Youtube isn't great on any connection really. Its not particularly Virgins fault, Youtube is just constantly hammered and needs to balance the load somehow.

VM YT performance has been very poor for a long time. Read back through this thread if you want to see the complaints. No issues here on BT Infinity & Zen Fibre.

I've heard of them before, but I'm saying its not localized to just VM and its not entirely their fault.

Many ISP's across the world have issues with Youtube and its reported constantly on reddit and what not.

I've never had major issues with it for as long as I've been with VM. Sometimes it takes awhile to buffer or it doesn't at all, but then a few minutes later it will be fine.

I'm fortunate to have never had any issues with YouTube on VM either, but I do live in a pretty good area performance wise which has very little problems.

I used to have an issue with youtube (a couple of months ago atleast), tried all the fixes at the time, helped it somewhat. On a clean reinstall since, and youtube is fine. I do have google chrome extensions to allow it to prebuffer more than it regularly does. So I would go as far as saying that it works well.

It's probably one of the most complained about things in this thread, second to congestion.

It hasn't been anywhere near as bad as it was before.

VM having been upgrading their network recently and whilst it maybe hasn't reached everyone, it isn't as big an issue as it use to be.

Congestion is a problem, but again it seems to be getting better for most people.

YT sometimes has issue on their own but the streaming being slow or impossible last time were down to ISP's and mainly VM were bad.

They cache "popular videos" to save bandwidth so other videos are slower.

I am sure there is mention o this on this forum and the way to block it in your FW (with side effects though).

Just gave VM a months noticed :)
The guy come back with "as of this week we have no more traffic shaping ect.) like I believe VM.
I told him 150Mb has been put back a third time to next year and he come back with " you can have 150Mb now"

If they want my cash they better do a better deal. Just found this on VM forum
"OK, so yes, no downstream traffic management, 152Mb broadband working at top speed off peak, they are the good things."

So if you're home all day it's good but if you work it's bad lol

Steam or Origin.

if all you do is streaming then yes 152Mb even 120Mb isn't worth it

those are actually 2 very good examples, but as i don't game at all, they are not something i consider important, much as many gamers would consider streaming media etc as not that important.... they can't tailor to one area of the market place at the expense of others.

at the moment i think i'll be staying put on the 120, if my knowledge is not floored, the modem i have can ond 4 channels to get the 120 capability, but not the 6 needed for the 152 (as the SH2 can do)

Don't know if this is the place to post this but can anyone help me with this? With VM and the past day i've been lagging in game. Only in game for some reason. Heres my speed tests

Yet in game I always lag the last day. Even in Teamspeak you can hear it in peoples voices. Extremely annoying with Titanfall around the corner :D

Can anyone help? Tried out BF4, CoD4, TF2, Insurgency and the Arma series and lag in them all :(

depending on your area, u would get 8 channels down, 2 channels up even with 120Mb.

why have 120Mb if your mainly stream? wouldn't 30Mb or 60Mb be a better option?

checked post code checker, thought 152mb was around may-sept. my street has it, so called up , upgraded in mins. over the moon :)

When you say "Postcode checker" do you mean the one on the free upgrade page or the one on new customer collections page?

Notice the latter shows my street as having 152mb but the upgrade says Aug-Jan now I guess this will to keep up take low and just offer it to new customers.
