just cancelled my sky TV and am now going back to virgin.

deal they have given is brilliant and some new deals on the way.
They're getting Sky Sports 3, 4 & 5 in HD soon. within the next month apparently.

Also i've signed unto Sky Sports season ticket. £150 upfront cost and the fee for sky sports subscription is removed from your bills. Saving of £122 over the year.

£59.99pm. not bad at all tbh

That "Sky HD" is that just HD channels of sport or does it include movies?

Either way not bad at all. Must admit it's the first i've heard of this Sky Sports season ticket.
 
Virgin and Sky throttle speeds at peak times as far as I know. Went with BT in the end.

I'm pretty sure Virgin have dropped throttling on downloads, but still throttle uploads in peak.

We've got great news for all customers on our broadband tiers of 30Mb and above. After listening to your feedback, we've decided to stop applying our traffic management policy to download speeds. So now you can download as much as you like without worrying about traffic management slowing you down
 
I was recently looking for a new provider after having a nightmare with Sky.

Sky have the worst customer service known to man in my opinion. Was thinking of Talk Talk but apparently their customer service is also dire.

Virgin and Sky throttle speeds at peak times as far as I know. Went with BT in the end.
Had a few teething problems to start with but their customer support is excellent.

76 Meg download speeds and no Traffic Management or throttling. Happy customer.

Oh the customer service is about as bad as it gets. Rang to cancel the account on my current flat and was told I can't do it until 31 days from the end of the contract as that's how much notice I had to give. Informed her I was actually giving about 50 days notice so could she just make sure the contract isn't auto-renewed at the end, and was told if she tried to do that it would be rejected. I had to ring back exactly 31 days before my contract is due to expire in order for the cancellation notice to work. Complete rubbish.

Do BT still charge you for not using the phone? I racked up another £8 a month in charges at uni IIRC because they talked me into the 'free' phone line I knew I'd never use, then charged me for not making any calls!

So you still apply traffic management to upload speeds at peak times?
 
This happened to me, swtich off and unplug your Superhub for 5 minutes then switch it back on. You should get full speed then.
Just got round to trying this ... switched off super hub and wait ~5 mins then tried speedtest again but still got 60Mb (meant to be 152Mb now) ... speed starts off by ramping up to 75Mb then drops back to a fairly constant 60 for the rest of the test.
Will get round to switching to direct connection to SH to see if I can eliminate or implicate any issues in my LAN setup

Its facepalm time. Suddenly remembered having a similar type of issue before when I'd played with the QoS settings in my Asus router and got the upstream and downstream bandwidths the wrong way round and spent a week wondering why I only got 5Mbs connections. Checked and sure enough I still had QoS enabled setup to manage 60Mbs downstream and 5Mbs upstream (clearly QoS works as that's what I was getting!). Turned it off and reran speed test and now get 160Mbs download and 12.25 MBs upload.
 
Anybody know if i can ask Virgin to obfuscate my geo-IP location a bit (e.g. to just UK)? I'm a new Virgin ISP user and I've never had such fine-grained location (my town) on location based adverts, it's always been e.g. London, as that's where my ADSL 'ouput' was.

I don't actually want my geo-IP out there!
 
I'm guessing they allocate IP addresses by town and they will all be set the same therefore unlikely they will entertain changing it.

You can't. Get a VPN.
 
I'm not that bothered by it to pay for it (just ads annoy me, no illicit activities), but that's interesting: is the Virgin cable service fixed-IP then? I assumed it was a dynamic IP service where it was unlikely to change. But if they are strict with the location based-IP allocation is it actually fixed IP?
