Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I'm not that bothered by it to pay for it (just ads annoy me, no illicit activities), but that's interesting: is the Virgin cable service fixed-IP then? I assumed it was a dynamic IP service where it was unlikely to change. But if they are strict with the location based-IP allocation is it actually fixed IP?

Not fixed, but unlikely to change unless they resegment or change out/reset equipment. Don't be surprised to keep the same IP for a year, and then some network work gets done and it changes.

Any Twitch streamers here ever faced throttling issues after 2-3hr stream?

Thinking of going 150mb for the 12mb upload when we move.

Would stick with Infinity for the 18Mbit upload unthrottled but it's not in the new area. :(

Anybody here solve the issue with Cisco VPN not working with the Superhub?

I've tried enabling all the passthrough options and set Firewall to Low but to no avail.

The Cisco VPN client connects, but unable to actually reach network shares or anything.

Seems OK with citrix VPN without any adjustments.

Quite annoying. Checked the "superhub" settings, all seem fine, VPN Passthrough all good etc. But to no avail.

What options do i have in swapping out the "superhub" with a thrid party router?

Very odd, Citrix works fine for me as stated above without any settings changes. But I elected to use a third party router anyway with the superhub in modem mode, which of course is also fine.

EDIT: Oh, I'm talking about the Citrix Receiver product.

Try using Shrew VPN instead, with the same Cisco configuration file. I use that all the time, firewall in low setting and IP flood turned off.

Funny you should say that, i just heard back from using Shrew VPN instead as a test. To no avail unfortunately.

Will take a look at the IP Flood setting.

Really strange. I just looked through my Superhub config and that's the only change I can see... and I think I only turned IP Flood off so that I could ping my router from outside to make sure it was alive when away from home.

To clarify, everything on Firewall page turned on, except IP Flood:

Port Scan Detection
IPSec Pass-Through
PPTP Pass-Through
Multicast Pass-Through

I just had a package shuffle. Managed to half my monthly bill, get a free 1TB Tivo box and now on 152Mb , ran a speed test and I got 161Mb, very happy.com

DOCSIS 3.1 is one step closer, virgin are trialing it in their labs now http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...ting-10gbps-docsis-3-1-broadband-upgrade.html

According to the article it's the end of this year/start of next that the hardware will be finalised so i imagine it wouldn't be until mid to late 2015 at least before it starts getting rolled out then a couple of years after that before they reach everywhere. Who knows though, Liberty Global have been harping on about 3.1 for a while so they might make a push with this.

just cancelled sky and moved across to Virgin for our new home that we're moving into on Friday. Happy with the deal, big kahuna for £25 per month for 6 months and then £45 thereafter. Also got £222 cashback via topcashback.

Considering getting a second box to use in the bedroom, its a toss up between a V HD box for no initial fee and £6.50 a month or a second Tevo box for £50 up front and £11.50. Would you say its worth the extra cost for the tevo box or should I just stick to the standard one without recording capabilities?

Our upstreams were upgraded from 16QAM to 64QAM yesterday. Hopefully that's an indicator that they'll get back to the 10:1 ratio at some point.

Coming to end of contract period now. Paying £27.50 for 120Mb broadband only. What deals are you folks getting?
