Virgin Media Discussion Thread

What's my cheapest option to watch as much European football (champions/europa) as possible? From what i can see on the site Big Kahuna gets me BT's channels but not the sky sports ones and the package above that which has them is twice the price.

It's £30 to add sky sports as an addon from what i can see and £15 for BT Sports.

I'm on the lowest package (i think) at £31 a month inc phone+BB with loyalty dicount hence why an extra £30 seems a lot.

I've been having lots of evening slow downs with my 152mb service. It will routinely drop to about 15-20mb and make any kind of streaming impossible. I've rung up Virgin and they are aware of the issue which they are claiming to be a utilization issue . There has been a fault in my area since January 6th and it is scheduled to be fixed by April 4th. That is 3 months I will have a greatly reduced service. I've got 50% off the cost of the internet for 3 months but to be honest I'd just like it working :( During the day it is okay but in the evenings it is almost unusable.

Don't expect it to be fixed by the 4th April, that'll just be a review date.

My area has had utilisation issues since September, review date is March and that is pre-planning only!

Hope you have better luck than I ..

yeah i had utilisation issues back in april 2013 it took over a year to get it fixed (may 2014) then it was fine for a month then the speed started dropping again, and they won't be fixing anytime soon either.

what's bad tho is the speed drop's and jumps up and down between 38 - 80 Mb at peak and they admitted the utilisation spikes slightly then they changing their story saying they can't see any issues on the network. also i can't get credit from them because they said there's no fault ref number, basically making out there's no fault with it.

it's slowly going the same way as it was back in april 2013 which i was down to 5 - 15Mb

Yeah, they seem to over subscribe the network until it reaches 90%, then they do something.

Trouble is, way before that 90% mark it affects the connection.

Here's to hoping!

Just started Season 4 of Walking Dead .. ******** Virgin Media have a season 5 preview within their "on demand Box Set" selection screen. Basically a spoiler because it shows who survived .. What utter gob **** . Well done VM

Could anyone comment on whether or not my new Virgin contract is actually good deal? I was paying £120p/m for everything (all channels, 152mb etc) so i phoned up yesterday to cancel because i only watch the TV for Skysports and broadband at half speed would still be plenty for me.

Anyway, the new deal i negotiated is £52 p/m for 6 months and then £62 p/m for the next 12 months. For this i get;

Talk Weekends
Free Voicemail
TV Size M+
TiVo Monthly Fee
Broadband Size: XL (up to 100Mb)
All Skysports (but not HD)
Phone Line

Sound about right or could I have done better? I can still cancel within the next 12 days or something so i might have some bargaining power still.

I've seen congestion faults run to over 2 years in some of the bad areas. If the congestion is fairly bad, then you're doing well if it's sorted within a year. Cat-c resegs don't happen overnight.

I'm currently at 15 months since I first reported my area issues, and while some work has been done things are still pretty slow more than a year on!

Current fix ETA is around June or so they say!

I've seen pretty dire results from think broadband in the past.

Do you get the same sort of speeds from the VM servers on speedtest.net?

Getting sick to death of this dog**** company. Four years with them and have never received my promised speeds, never get what I pay for.

I upgraded to 100MB package, day of upgrade:

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4180168461

What I actually get 99.9% of the time:

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4183951887

Whenever I ring them up all I get is a bunch of ******** and a engineer sent out if im lucky, sometimes they give me a 'boost' on my line whatever that is, and the internet will run at proper speeds for 24-48 hours then back to 10% of what I'm paying for. They should be charging me for the 10mbps package not the 100...

Anyone know how to deal with this god awful company? Not to mention games like League of Legends are unplayable some days, and 2 seconds into Google you can find out its a Virgin specific problem.

Monghole of a company.

Only speak to retentions, they are usually good with sorting out issues of payment at least.

I need to give them a call myself as my connection has been falling over pretty much every day for the last 2 weeks for up to a few hours at a time.

Bare in mind that they will only try and guarantee speeds across their own network, once you hop off then your connection is only as fast as the weakest link. VM doesn't have a test server in leicester so make sure you use one of their servers to get an accurate idea of how its performing.
