Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I'd say about £100ish tops. Just looking at the Asus RT-N66U which seems to get good reviews but not sure if there's something better out there.
I had the N66U and it's a great router but I recommend you get the AC68U now. It has a dual core CPU so handles loads much better and also the wifi is AC so at least in theory you can get the full 200 Mb (and 300 Mb should it go to that next year) over wifi, which is not possible with the N66U.

I have both the SH2 and SH3. I have them both in cable modem mode but have to say I prefer the 2 as with that I could dim the lights. The feature is no longer available in the SH3 and I don't need it's AC wifi as it's in modem mode.

I've got that router and it works well. Barely need to do anything to set it up and it has dual band wifi.

Thanks :) It does seem to get great reviews. Definitely on the shortlist.

I can highly recommend the Archer C7

Thanks. Will look into that one :)

Damn you :D It's well out of my budget that one but if i see a good deal on one i'll reconsider. Thanks :)

I re-joined VM about 10 days ago due to having a sabbatical and being with sky since 2013. I'm on their VIVID 100 with phone ( weekend calls malarkey ) all for £26.99 on a 12 month deal.

Normally with a phone line they only seem to offer 18mth deals but when joining I wanted to know if they would do the same as their 50MB deal listed on uswitch.

I've since had it 3 times now were the internet on my laptop (wired not wireless ) drops and loses IP and connection to the gateway. Strange thing is my x box one would stay connected via wired but the wireless and the laptop would drop.

Spoke to the people in their so say tech dept. and the bloke mentioned about doing a pin hole reset. I get the feeling he's just fobbed me off with a temporary fix. Proceeding with the reset has fixed it but so has just turning the power off to the router and turning it on again.

Anyone else had this type of problem? Is it the router being as rubbish as the original super hub?

I'm using the super hub 2 ac

Im looking to sign up to VM in my new house, does anyone know the best deals for internet and tv? google around seems that friends and family referals come up with some amazing offers but going to the VM site it seems you just got a £50 voucher at the moment? you get more than that by going through a cashback site!

You might be thinking of Mates Rates, you need someone that works for VM to get you that.

I cancelled my big kahuna bundle at the end of last month, got the letter about the price hike and decided total £80\month was far too much.
Called cancellations and the guy done it within 2 min, no arguing, asked why but that was it, all cancelled by 27th Dec.
Ordered up Sky tv, fibre unlimited and phone line but have had second thoughts and cut it back to only tv (£18\month for 12 months) for their big family package.
Also decided to lose the phone line completely as I only ever call my parents on it, everything else is mobile.
I'm looking to keep my virgin broadband but willing to drop from 150Mb to 100, should I be calling retentions to see what they can do or do they usually call you nearer the cut off time?

I had it probably at least once a day doing this on my Superhub 1. It would not only drop the connection but reset all the settings back to factory settings occasionally.

I even got sent another which did exactly the same thing. Now I dont trust them. I have a Superhub 2 and I'm not using it as a router.

That's what I was thinking Nexus, just never done it before so don't know how they usually play it.
I figure I'll wait until the week before Christmas as they may have a deal on I could ask for.

Makes you wonder from reading this thread why Virgin don't spend money on making the existing infrastructure work properly rather than headline figures.

It's been like that since they took over the cable services. Faster and faster speeds so you can reach your traffic shaping limit quicker :)

Just noticed that on the if you select "delete from server" on the client, it doesn't move the message to BIN or TRASH. This means the mail box get pretty full. Apparently, this is a known problem and has been for some time.

getting a bit fed up with VM..

Broadband is superb but their other services are pants.

Mail - always down and doesn't work well with sync'd devices
TV.. Again always up and down, we get buffering all the time.
TiVo - I wish we never got rid of our old box as this is a pile of **** often skips recording.
Netflix is just a no-go through the box.. I'm best off running this through the wifi on the TV, but even then, at around 10pm the wifi drops. I think it's when the DHCP renews the ip address. I haven't got to find out what this is.
No Sky Atlantic

then they kick you in the teeth adding another £3 a month on the increase earlier in the year..

Hi all

I just got the virgin super 50 mb fiber line, and the speeds have been terrible from 11 am to 2 am, that is 15 hours, speeds at just 2 - 8 mb, 5pm to 1 am is alway capped at 2.8 mb down speed but up speed is always constant at 3.5 mb. 2am on wards been great at 50 mb.

I talked to virgins already, got a lot BS from them, but they did admit there is a traffic Jam caused there are too many subscriber in the area, but they say it will be fixed within a couple of days, a week to 2 months.

What I'm wondering is whether it will be fixed eventually or will it stay this way for at least a year?

Thanks

I highly doubt it will be fixed before your contract finishes. They will just give you the same BS over and over and occasionally give you credits on your account.

Sorry I forgot to mention I just joined virgin media, only a week ago. Was with sky and they have been great no caps, sadly they don't do Fiber in my area at the moment.

Is it possible that the speed will improve soon cause im still new to virgin or will it stay at 2.8mb?

Thanks

If you're in a congested area then it will likely not improve.

Post your power levels on your modem if you can, it may be that need an engineer visit.

Where in the country are you?
