Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Yes, I was using it in modem mode, but my TP link wifi was crap, so switched back to router mode on my SuperHub 3

U tried using networked devices through it yet?

It can't see WiFi printers or fire TVs properly u have to add them via IP. Its an issue virgin have said will be sorted in a patch at some point.

I've been with Virgin in the following areas and never had a problem yet...

Sadly I've had Virgin in two areas and the first was poor (I also had 75MB FTTC so wasn't too bothered) and the second is far worse and there's no FTTC option.

Virgin refuse to even accept I have an issue as at some times of the day (well night) speedtest.net shows good speed, but its uses multiple connections and appears prioritised compared to all other speed test sites. Most afternoons and every evening streaming services are a no go. The problem with Virgin is if you do get an issue or reducing speeds you can often wait more than a year for a fix to the issue if it happens at all.

Thankfully the speed update has been pushed back and back in my area which would make it even worse - currently scheduled for 2017. My saving grace is an expensive 4G system (~30Mb) and BT ADSL so I pay a fortune for internet access but at least I am covered one way or another. Seeing the ~8Mb ADSL outperform VMs 150Mb service in the evening is still sad though!

Nail on the head, VM as a whole are terrible.

Guys is it true that if VM send you a letter to say your bill is going up half way through your contract you can pull out and end it?

I remember someone saying they done this with no fine,as technically VM broke the contract half way through by increasing the price,Or have the crafty gits now put it in the small print?

Well I'm happy as a pig in the preverable, one guy came ripped blocked paving up no issues and now up and running.

I'm using a Canon MG5550 Wifi printer fine with my superhub3.0

Is it me are other provider better at fixing issues and customer service in general ?
maybe 1 in 100 you get someone useful (I was lucky, he was new and replaced the router for me)

ive been having issues with my wifi and broadband for months, I get 3 replies.

1. We will change the channels
2, You can a buy wifi range extenders from our store
3. We don't support wifi issues, twice I had this reply

I was with sky before and the support was much better they would do as much as possible, if they offered fiber in my area I would have stayed.

I'm hoping after last night I'm not in a 'congested area' as my speeds dropped down to anywhere between 20 and 40 mb when testing.

Tried it again this morning before I left for work and back upto 205.

Hi all,

currently I just have the basic VM 50meg line. However, I'd like to get homeworks 300meg if i can. Do I just add it to my current line using the online upgrade methods. Or do i need to be on the 200meg service already to do that?

You have to be on the 200mb package already then have to ring up to add it

so im moving house after all the hoohar i went through at the end of contract, fun times.

before i managed to get a decent deal (100quid credit, 35 a month then 50 a month / 100mb m+ and phone) (and 70quid quidco but im waiting for that to come through)
And we've nearly finished using the credit so will start paying from this month. (its like 14quid on the bill)

so, i just called, changed address for end of month, and got offered 200meg, m+ and phone for 37 a month (12 months) then 47 a month (6 months).

I honestly dont care if its not the best deal, im sick of haggling and chasing them around so its done and done now!

Getting a lot of lag on VM lately. Also there seems to be a lot of "RS errors" on the router. What is that likely to be? :/

Apart from that its been great. I'm actually getting 55mbit on a 50mbit line.

I'm really regretting "upgrading" to 200 with these. It's not been much good since the very first day, and now I've just gone a whole week where the connection is very, very intermittent, which is also due to go on for another several days. Any time I call them, they say they have no issues and it must be my equipment, even though my neighbours on each side are having exactly the same problems?

What chance do you guys think I have of been able to cancel my contract? Or even just remove the Broadband, as the TV and Phone are fine?

Keep on at them and get a log number, annoying as they are.

As stated you need to need to be able to get 200Mb in your area, though you don't have to be on it already. It is £14 more than the 200Mb depending on what price you can get that for as that will vary from person to person.

Hi guys, I work for VM so I can sign up new customers on mates rate. Anyone interested send me a PM, some forum members have already done this and it's still availible.

Still a thing? I will be moving house and Virgin is the only fibre provider.

Also, I thought PMs on here were disabled???

So.. After about 4 hours on the phone today, with an admittedly very friendly and helpful rep, I have been given the option to leave. I have 7 months left, it would normally cost me £140 to cancel the internet or £240 to cancel everything, and she has agreed to waive the internet costs. Currently debating on whether to get out all together or just take the free internet cancellation

Paying for 200Mbps, still getting between 2-4Mbps after 6pm.

Typical blasé post from a VM rep on their forums says it's due to high peak time traffic in my area and they'll review this by November 2016.

Dropping these cowboys as soon as my 12 months is up.
