Virgin Media Discussion Thread

phone retentions and haggle a deal.

Not haggled much with them before, not sure what the boundaries are for offers.

Phoned up... and the "best" I can get apparently is:

£37.00 for 6 months
£40.00 thereafter
£30.00 off my first bill

Not sure I'm particularly wowed? Paying £42 atm... going up to £45... and I'll be paying £40 in 6 months.

Worth acting like I'm not interested?

Got my SH3 today along with the Vivid Gamer 200 upgrade. Got to say for VM everything went smoothly, usually needs a 30 minute phone call minimum.

Have uploaded about 12GB tonight and still averaging about 18MB.

ok so looks like my SH3 is affected by the random reboot/resetting

Anyway around this?

@Gareth how have you set yours up if you don't mind me asking.

Atm I am in modem mode with Asus AC68u

i have mine in modem mode with Asus RT-AC87U...

are you sure the hub fully reboot or does the connection drop out? if your connection dropping out then most likely your connected to Arris CMTS, the only way around it to keep the hub in router mode until they fix it

try the hub in router mode to see if that stops it.

Have checked the MAC address and it shows I am connected to the Arris CMTS.

The logs shows t3 timeouts & the hub rebooting (although the date says it was rebooting in 1970).

I'll try router mode tomorrow.

Thinkbroadband.com shows connection dropping every 30 min or so.

The rebooting is probably the new device firmware updating but the connection drops look like textbook sh3 Arris CMTS flapping :-(

the only way around dropping every 30 minutes is it to keep the hub in router mode

I am a bit noob when it comes to this, but how do I go about seeing if I am connected to the Arris CMTS.

I have been getting frequent drops out of my service here. And it seems to have got worse with the introduction of my AC87U, but I am on an old SH1 with a new SH3 on the way.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with Arris CMTS it's specifically an issue with its combination with a SH3. I don't have my virgin connection yet so someone will tell you in more detail but discovering the brand of CMTS requires you to look at the Mac address of the device your router is connecting to and looking up the first few characters which will relate to a specific manufacturer.

that is very weird, i just checked my cable mac address and it says ARRIS GROUP, INC.. but i'm having no connection drop out issues, even when i was on the public firmware 9.1.88T

sure looks that way. Changed back to router mode and not disconnects over the past 90 minutes.

Gareth I guess your on the Beta programme? (apologies if already asked)

Not sure if you are able to say anything but have VM released a Beta firmware to fix the Arris Group problem in the past few weeks? ... have been reading on the VM forums and this problem looks to of been around since July.

yes I'm on the firmware trial, i can't say anything about it, sorry mate.

but as i said above i checked my cable mac address and it says ARRIS GROUP, INC.. but I've had no connection drop out issues, when i was on the public firmware 9.1.88T so i don't know why it's working for me.. any ideas anyone?

Fingers crossed it stays that way! My SH3 arrived today and luckily my CMTS seems to be Cisco so I will see how it goes, it's quite ironic considering Arris make the SH3 itself.
