Same for me this morning.

Offered me a mobile dongle from a store to see me through until it's fixed. Told them I don't really want a dongle and I've read on the forums about fix dates getting put back.

Then tried to tell me £160 cancellation fee applies, wasn't having any of that, finally got manager approval to cancel without the fee.

Now need to decide who I'm going with. Any suggestions?
 
I've just had an engineer come around and replace my SH2 that was having drop outs with a SH3

Previously I had my SH2 in modem only mode with an Asus AC68U installed to handle the wifi but currently the SH3 is handling wifi

Whats the general feedback on the SH3? Is it worth leaving as is or switch to modem only and use the AC68U?

why don't you try it and see. nobody here can say if the hub 3 wifi will be better in your house than the SH2.

the performance is different in every house... if you get poor wifi with the hub 3 then just use the Asus AC68U again

IIRC, pings are not reliable performance testers on VM network. They deliberately de-prioritise them through their routers. Unless it's one of the popular speed-test sites, it seems.

At one point, even the BBC was blocking VM pings because of all the VM users that were using them as a ping check.

The wireless on my SH3 is decent, the wireless on my AC87U is better though not by much.
 
I've got the 100MB broadband and telephone line and paying £34/month.

My contract was up and virgin offered 38/month for 12 months as prices have increased, so I cancelled package.

Virgin rang me back and offered £32.50/month for 12 months and no price increase.

Is this a good deal or should I hold out?

Just got the letter too. That takes me upto £85 a month here in Harrow, Middlesex. Sod that.

VIVID 150 Optical Fibre - They keep upping the price on broadband when I don't even want that speed.

TV XL and medium phone package.
 
Seems to get harder each year to haggle with VM if you are persistent enough they usually come good.

Managed to get the following all in for £65 with no price increase in November on a 12 month contract & includes line rental (a manager had to step in to get this price and a apply a rolling credit after I was misquoted by £5 on a previous call)

I was paying £75 before due to increase to £78.50 with the same as above but with no sky cinema and VIVID 200 Broadband

It seems with VM more often the more you have the cheaper it gets they quoted me to downgrade to the most basic TV / Phone / BB and it came back at £48 with the increase still to go on so would have been £51.50
 
Quite happy with my 300/20 Homeworks+ connection.

Definitely appears to be on a different tier of connection.

The neighbors let me use their wifi for a few days while we were waiting for installation and they were on the 100mbit package... it was an absolute nightmare at peak times - dropping to unusable speeds.

So far, this connection is holding strong and I haven't noticed any throttling or over-utilisation... and I've been downloading multiple TB of data re-populating my games library (1.5+ TB) and catching up on some movies that were released while I was without decent internet... I've managed 1.75TB in under a day.
 
Does anyone the basics of Virgin media broadband fair usage policy ?

I've was offered 100mb Broadband only for £25.25 down the original offer they gave me of £29 a month after speaking to a manager.
It took it at time because i was busy and didn't push too much, I'm thinking of maybe calling back and canceling the offer i took to see how far i can push my luck, considering how they messed me about.

I think you might be confusing fair use policy with something else. They have a cooling off period of 14 days, calendar days not working days and starts the minute you take them up with the offer on the phone, if that's what you are wondering.
 
Currently paying £51/month for 100mbit/TV XL and evening/weekend calls. Though this is a discounted price (-£15) for 6 months (after I was out of contract and looking for deals on the web chat).

However I've just received the £3.50 increase letter and I'm not really using the TV XL, mainly Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I'm wondering whether to threaten cancelling and seeing if they throw extended discount my way? Or just leave and take a package with BT or Plusnet?

All I really need is a reliable net connection with a 20-50mbit speed.

If you're not using the XL TV, why not just down grade this and see what price they give you?

Is this true for any VM broadband customer? We've been with them since last October, so still 6 months of the contract left, and we've had so many problems since then that it's driving us crazy. Apart from a very dodgy installation, we've had at least 6 outages during peak time (probably more that we haven't been around for), and it prevents us from being able to work from home.
I'd rather go back to BT where we had slower speeds but at least it was stable.

Anyone who's cancelled in the last week or so have you had anything through from Virgin regarding cancelling?

I've not heard from them since I rang up, not sure if I'm supposed to get a email/letter now or once the 30 days are up.
