Ran a speed test and voila!

Just curious - how is your single vs multiple connection speed on a thinkbroadband speed test?

Here's my 152Mbps service which suffers a common VM issue with single connection speed as well as the more well known VM congestion issues :

No prizes for guessing why I've not upgraded to the 200 or 300Mbps services which I would do if I could actually get anything near that!

Just done this one now:

Thanks.

Well at least it proves some people can fairly similar single and multiple connection speeds, sadly not me.

There's discussion on the VM forums over make of CMTS affecting this particular issue and its a real pain as it impacts most streaming and downloads (without a download manager).

Made the call yesterday.
Originally on the 100mb broadband only 18 months ago for £32 and its crept up to £38 as from November, plus the speed boost to 150mb.
Didn't need any pushing really, they dropped the speed to 100mb and the price to £30 for 6 months then £33 for the next 6.
Quite happy with this price. I have never had an issue with virgin but would have moved to vodafone or bt or similar if they didnt budge.

Woo! Worse than mine...

I still get decent throughput at least... it's just the pings and dropped packets all over the place than make the general experience unpleasant...

Oh well... Zen VDSL2 being installed on 2nd Nov :)

I've received a new updated config file afew days ago for the gamer package.

Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID 379486
Max Traffic Rate 230426000

Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID 379485
Max Traffic Rate 22000000

I recently left Virgin Media after 6 years with them. I was on the HomeWorks+, Medium TV and weekend calls, paying a total of £70. We don't ever watch TV so we were effectively paying £70 for internet. I phoned them at the end of September and was offered 200 gamer for £36 a month.

I rang up yesterday to take them up on their offer after researching the other ISP options but they said they had no idea how the previous agent managed to get it to that price, the best they could do was £45.25. I said I wanted to leave and they still didn't budge on the price.

I've signed up for EE fibre for £35 a month and an extra 5GB on my phone contract. I'm going to be going from 300mbps to 75mbps which I'm not looking forward to but I guess I will just leave larger files to download overnight or something.

Yeah the speed drop doesn't suit me either but what can you do, I refuse to be bent over a barrel by them.

Maybe I'm nuts... but I still get the 300mbit most of the time, it's just browsing the internet and gaming that's unpleasant.

So I have an ongoing complaint that's dropped my 300mbit to £30/month which I'll use for downloads and the Zen 80/20 connection will be for general usage and gaming.

Still £75/month for interwebs... but it wasn't long ago I was paying about £90/month for 500/50 and to go down to 80/20 single connection would be too painful.

I also noticed that some webpages took a long time to load considering the massive amount of bandwidth on offer. It doesn't seem to matter the time or the day. Downloads get up to about 39MB/sec, server dependent. Shame VM don't offer a faster upload with their 300mbps.

Yeah... the excessive waiting times like that are indicative of fluctuating pings and packet loss. It's happening to me all the time to the point when surfing general web pages... the pathetic 5 down 1 up with 13-15ms stable ping adsl2+ connection I had in France was faster for general web browsing.

Sometimes when you get a packet loss spike, the website just won't load at all... and it happens most in the evening when I want to use it.

But go to download a file / games / etc and I generally get full speed.

Hence keeping it at a reduced rate instead of just ditching it. I'm pretty certain the Zen connection won't have that problem.

It's a shame as I had a VM connection in a different area before I left the UK and it was great, no problems at all.

I would also like better upload speed... the bandwidth is available, just for some reason they won't offer it. My 500/50 connection was on the same tech that VM use... DOCSIS 3/3.1... it's capable of over 1gbit down and 300mbit up with current technology.

But then even BT's FTTP connection is only 300/30... very odd to have such a poor upload on a dedicated fibre connection.

Perhaps they are doing it on purpose to try and justify the extra expense of a leased line?

I got a quote for a 100/100 FTTP connection the other day... £400 :(

just did a web chat to upgrade to the VIP bundle that's on the website, 'new customers only'. If i want the same deal, £10 more per month for 9 months then up to £25 per month for 3 months!

I left my 200 Vivid for a 17mbps FTTC line.

Beats having high pings and 5Mbps in the evening. Just need to download through the night and when I'm at work.

Only annoying bit. :(

So annoying living in an area where I can only get fiber with VM, just called up to see what was going on with my connection only to hear 50 others have also complained of poor speeds during peak-hours.

Half tempted to mail my MP and get someone like Hyperoptic on board or something. Utterly unacceptable how VM continues to milk it in this area due to demand and no competition.

Yeah. I was screwed either way. Don't get how VM have gotten away with the congestion that's been happening for years.
