Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Average response time for the mods on there is around 7 days, makes it feel like a wasted endevour to get a macro reply.

Giving them till Friday to see if I get anything through regarding cancelling as it's been just over a month now. If no letter / pack to send SH3 back then getting a royal shafting on the phone.

Quite pleased, afetr a really bad experience with Virgin on the weekend. Managed to get the 200mb vivid gamer for £1 extra a month and a new hub for £5 delivery, which is a mute point for me really as I've moved over to Ubiquiti AP's throughout the house

I'm looking at the Ubiquti stuff as well, just using the VM box for internet then AP's/boosters where needed.
I was toying with the idea of going modem mode and using my N40 to do all the technical side but gave up on the idea due to lack of time..

Just got the letter too. That takes me upto £85 a month here in Harrow, Middlesex. Sod that.

VIVID 150 Optical Fibre - They keep upping the price on broadband when I don't even want that speed.

TV XL and medium phone package.

Forgot to mention that I phoned up VM regarding this and spoke to Greg I believe in their retentions department after I stated I had better deals from Sky (I did). They slashed my soon to be £83-85 bill to £52 including that November price rise. I did have my TV package downgraded from XL though, since it is only used by the parents and they hardly make use of it.

The retentions team are right bunch of ******

Just canceled for the 3rd time, after they offered me a discount deal which I took and sent me a contact for the standard price, I spent the last 2 weeks trying to get what was promised but each time i spoke to them i got told something diffrent each time always contradicting information, its seem they dont know what they are doing even with everything on the system, Yesterday I spoke to someone who told me that deals not possible they never do anything that low but then did it anyway as promised but was £2 a month more then I was quoted originally, because of all that's happened I phoned back today to confirm i would get the upgraded 150mb and at the agreed price.

INSTEAD OF HELPING he started talking over me, he would let me confirm yes then start talking over me instead of correcting him. then he told me he needs to remove some discounts because its more then i should get, So I told him im fed up with all the messing about and he can cancel the contract, I was shocked when he said I need pay to for the remaining contact (12 months), so i just told him they can try but it will just be passed on to my solicitors.
he finally agreed to cancel but CUT ME OFF before confirming anything.

THEY CAN TAKE OFF DISCOUNTS BUT NOT ADD THEM ?

Some companies seem to go out of the way to **** you off.

So I moved house about 3 months ago and migrated my account and changed package to what seemed a reasonable deal via retentions. New 12m contract @ about £28pm and involved a £4 monthly credit being applied to the account bringing it down to £24.

Got a letter through a few days ago to say that the bill is going up by £3.75 as of next month which kinda negates the credit part of the deal :/

Annoying! Anyone know if there's anything you can do about this sort of thing?

You have 30 days from the date of the letter to cancel, or just phone up retentions and complain about the price rise and they'll either remove it or give you a better deal.

Yes, retentions are all over the place at the moment.

I haven't bothered since my call with them a few months ago where the woman I spoke to didn't appear to know the first thing about their products or BB.

Thing that puzzles me here is that when I spoke to them I was advised the the 150MB was no longer available, which I'm currently on and have been for a long, long time, so I'd have to either downgrade to 100 or upgrade to the 200. So how is it possible that they've offered you the 150MB?

I will try them again one day, when I have the patience! :p

Well I phoned them last night as I did another speed test and was getting about 4Mb down :o

Turns out even though I only joined them 5 months ago there has been a fault in my area since Sep last year! It is due to be fixed on 9th Nov. I said that my line is basically unusable (painful even loading webpages at peak times, streaming is not possible at all) so they credited me 5 months of £5 off. Not great but I couldn't be bothered to argue further as it's only been affecting me for the last week or so.

So far my experience with VM has been hilarious. Put the price up after being with them for 4 months, now it's unusable. I hope my bloody landlords are happy; they are the ones that essentially forced us to go with VM by not installing a TV aerial socket in the lounge. I know they are with VM too downstairs so they must be having problems too. Pah.

Rang them up this morning to chase up my cancellation as I'd not had a letter through after a month, Note was on my account and my service has apparently been cut off now but they've been slack regarding sending the SH return pack back.

Guy was more than helpful and didn't try getting me to stay or make comments regarding their super speed etc.

Blast from the past nynex then it was called cable and wireless then it was ntl and now virgin media.

Anyone heard the latest/most recent news about Virgin Media's potential (not yet confirmed) plans to roll-out an upload speed increase? Simply making their broadband package speeds asymmetric 10/1, e.g. 200Mbps download and a 20Mbps upload.

The packages are supposed to correspond like this after the upgrade/upload speed increase plans, though that is if they actually go to plan and become a real life thing, I think:

  • 50Mbps download - 5Mbps upload.
  • 70Mbps download - 7Mbps upload. - (I'm on the 70Mbps package as of and since October 2015 - so pretty much well over a year since I got my upgrade from 50Mbps to 70Mbps).
  • 100Mbps download - 10Mbps upload.
  • 150Mbps download - 15Mbps upload.
  • 200Mbps download - 20Mbps upload. (However I think the GAMER-200Mbps package will end up with a upload speed of 30Mbps or higher (depending on Virgin Media themselves)).
