Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I swear this connection gets worse by the day... rebooting the router didn't help... yey network congestion:

Area is within their tolerance levels & no fault on my line...

But they've logged the complain and knocked my monthly price down to £30 (homeworks + 300/20)

I was thinking about keeping it as a downloads-only connection while I'm moving my main connection over to Zen - but if this keeps up, it's getting cancelled.

Different reply from the VM forum... they're telling me there's an intermittent SNR fault in the area and it should be fixed by Oct 31st.

If it was an intermittent SNR fault, the graph would be more uneven and have different variances on different days... it wouldn't show practically the exact same issue every day during only peak hours.

Oh well... i've told them they can have til 1st Nov to fix it and then I'm cancelling.

So, a friend of mine managed to drill through my virgin cable whilst trying to drill another hole in the wall next to said cable. I've had a read about and Virgin will want £99 for a call out to fix this. Do I have any other options? Tried using those screw in f-type connectors from B&Q but they didn't fix much so I really need it done properly I guess. Any suggestions or anything for me? Thanks.

Why didn't the connectors work? If they're the correct size, and you know how to fit them, I can't see why you couldn't re-join the cable. If the joint is then well wrapped with self amalgamating tape it should last for years.

Well that was fairly painless.
Called Virgin up & new 12 month deal for my BB & telephone is now £30pm down from £53 :D

Just called to try and get mine discounted, quite a poor offer they gave me and then when I gave your offer as an example they guy at Virgin said he must be lying that's not in our system and never has. I said i don't believe hes lying to which he replied well I can't lie these calls are recorded.

:D

I can't tell you why they didn't work I'm afraid. I managed to get some telly channels back but no internet. I could try fitting them again I guess.

Make sure not even a single core of the outer braid is touching the inner solid copper core, as soon as the two male contact your signal will degrade significantly.

Something to do with impedance. The Virgin Media coaxial cable isn't just a cable, it's a transmission line so there are strict tolerances you could be reflecting stuff back into the VM netowrk.

Phone them and say that your services are not working and you suspect someone has maliciously cut the cable outside.

I've had similar conversations with Virgin, sky etc over the years. I quote someone else's offer & get told, that's not right, or must be an error.
It all comes down to who you get to speak to on the day, as for the Virgin guy calling me a lier....

So annoying living in an area where I can only get fiber with VM, just called up to see what was going on with my connection only to hear 50 others have also complained of poor speeds during peak-hours.

Half tempted to mail my MP and get someone like Hyperoptic on board or something. Utterly unacceptable how VM continues to milk it in this area due to demand and no competition.
Where are you in London? I'm in Ealing and ever since the price rise my internet has been practically unusable at peak times. Can't stream Netflix or Amazon, loading webpages is a chore.

Can't summon the effort to call them right now and argue. Is there any other way to log a fault?
