Virgin Media Discussion Thread

ok fair enough - i thought just as much.

I have no intention of giving up infinity just yet so am going to run both alongside each other and see how it goes. I will just cancel in the cooling off period if i have to.

Is there a way of finding out your area number?

You could always try Google with a string like 'Virgin Media {my area} area code'. I just did that for Liverpool and one of the first results was a VM forum post saying the area code for the North West is 01. Worth a go?

Have tried that before and not had any luck. Anyway, i will prob just order broadband only from VM. I think i will always keep the BT line active for the landline so that i will always have the option to quickly change back to FTTC if i need to in the future if VM turns out to be a joke.

VM claim to have resolved the over utilization in my area, stuck a order in as don't require a engineer visit.

Will test it before the 14 days over to see what happens in a evening.

We're on our way...
Your community has been chosen for future development. We’re working as fast as we can to get to you but right now we can’t confirm when we’ll be able to connect this address to Virgin Media services.

Looks promising

I'm still getting drops even though I've switched to modem mode, latency is a lot lot better though, speeds have also taken a bit of a hit...

I've been with Virgin since the Blueyonder days and its pretty much been fault free for a quite a few years (just llucky i guess). Over the last week or so i've been playing Battlefield 1 a lot and im frequently getting lag spikes where my ping will go from its usual 25-35 to anything from 150 to 450. I keep doing speedtests and its always 150mbps so i'm not sure whats going on really.

Sound s like congestion, get a TBB monitor up.

Yeah, 3 times over 2 days via technical support and once via sales.

I'll be surprised if it is truly fixed but can always leave if they haven't.

I left for a 15Mbps connection cos of the congestion.

When will you be activated? Need to let me know how it goes.

I may just see out the year with this connection first. :/

Also saw a few vans on the estate running new cables, this makes me think they've actually done something on my estate atleast.

Hub is getting delivered Friday, hopefully should be connected by time I get home from work.

Even if it's not the full 200mbps in a evening and down to 150 I'll probably stick with it, issue was when it was dropping down to 10-40 in a evening.

Yeah, mine went to 2Mbps in the evening and pings went up to 100+.

If they have fixed it, I may just pay extra for the VM Broadband as I have the whole BT package.

15Mbps is usable, just dire for downloading. Lol.
